Hi All,

Looked at plenty of posts and thought it was time to take the plunge and join.

In the workshop: Warco WM240 Lathe and a WM 16B Mill.

I've had a very varied background and always had an interest in engineering but never really had the time or gear, now I have both and have begun to set my stall out.

My first build, which I started approx just over a year ago, was a Stuart S50 which I'm really pleased with.

Now in the deep end, I am just getting started on the Stuart Triple Expansion, it may never get finished but I'll give it my best and see how it goes. I'm hoping I can get some advice as required along the way and very much appreciate any help.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and I look forward to making some new friends along the way.

Cheers

Mike

Hi Mike,

Welcome to the forum. I assume many would be interested in some photos of your S50 and the Triple build. How to post photos here.

Stuart S50 Build

Stuart Triple Expansion Build

I’ve started the Triple build and just on fettling the base casting, have removed a fair bit from the outer edges but there’s still a fair bit to come out the centres.

If it’s allowed what’s the best way to go about setting up a build vlog on this site?

Hi Howard,

Thank you and appreciate the interest.

So far so good, it's certainly been tricky so far mind. Quite a bit of excess material to remove which the mill was ideal for.

Now I've got a datum on the bottom of base it I intend to mount it on an ally block so as it's easier to hold in the vice to machine the top surfaces and prepare the crank slots.

I feel a bit more confident but would be a mistake to get too relaxed.

Cheers
Mike

Hi MIke,

I find a set of parallels very useful to pack work in the vice, (Upwards and / or longitudinally ) for milling.

Hi Howard,

Thanks, I do have and use parallels normally but for repeatable squaring I figured mounted to a block would facilitate this more readily.

The block may serve as a mounting base also, will see.

Mike
