Thread: Definition of Handycrafts in Show competition |

Once a 'model' is entered as part of a competition to win a cup, the rule book has to be constantly modified to cover the 'intention' of the person submitting it. In M/E competition in LBSC s era, a loco was downgraded because the builder had used materials from drinks cans for the cleading. Judges didn't know this until told. A later one, a 14 year old had manufactured a lathe purely to skim the coms for his own model R/C cars and was downgraded because he 'should' have used cast iron for the construction instead of Allumininium. Used to compete in BARCS competitions thermal soaring events. Basic rule was competitor had to be 'The builder of the model', this covered own design, plan builds and kit builds. Worked fine until the 'Kits' arrived on the market which contained finished G/F fusegulges and CNC generated and pre covered wings so all the 'Builder' had to do was screw the servos in, plug the wings in and lob the 'Creation' into the air. 'Technically' still the builder but bends the intention. Rule sub sections are used to cover the evolution of the use of teknowleggy, should a modeller be penalised for their prowess in the manipulation of binary codes to achieve a result? In industry I used to embrace tecky in the manufacture of parts for a finished product so, not, a technophobe but for HOBBY, twiddling handles and reading a mic has always been the norm. 9000 jobs? All full time employment? I think not. How many of these are 'Temporary' ie. construction workers etc? and don't forget, ALL foreign investors pay less than the Government 'assistance' to induce them to start up. Remember De Lorian, and Strathern, good ideas at the time BUT. Petrol. Diesel, LPG and Hydrogen are 'Instant' refill energy sources although you have to go to a filling station but cramming electrons is a time consuming service but I suppose the necessity digging the roads up to supply every household with a 300amp feeder 'Creates' lots of jobs. Thread: I'm on Google Earth |

Did a street level drive through on 'Earth' a few years ago at the back of my property to see Millie, next door neighbours black and white cat staring at the camera. site was updated years later and in same location, staring at camera 'Alfie' latest black and white neighbour. Had to do a double take to see different markings. Regards Ian. |

Nigel, I told him not to be surprised if a trading standards officer visited. Peter G, on that reasoning If I purchased four pints the charge should be £12? After being in the trade on two occasions, there was NEVER any justification to apply a "Service" charge. With the Broadband suppliers, the company that is named after an unsullied young lady were told to go and procreate years ago as they kept increasing the monthly charges "To maintain the existing service" and when questioned on the validity of a so called 'Contract', was informed of the "Ts & Cs". Changing to 'Yakety Yak' originally was a fixed price for the length of the contract but they have now added the increase at a given point (Usually March) cos everyone else gets away with it. A new fibre supplier has just strung the neighbourhood with new poles and overhead 'Wires' with the promise of 'One gigglie for less than a pound a day' down to £25 for 100 moggies. Problem is, if it's more than a FIXED £20 it's too much. I don't want t'internet at the speed of the Starship Enterprise but being bludgeoned into ever advancing teknowleggy. I'm not a technophobe but 11moggies would be good IF they could guarantee that speed. Regards Ian. Gipsies tramps and thieves, car and double glazing salesmen AND ISPs. Weekly visit to local hostelry left bad taste. Two pints of beer, (one lager and one pale) £8.10, same drinks but two halves £4.75 ????? When questioned, barperson then proceeded to waffle that full pints were charged on a 'Special offer' basis but halves were charged at the "Correct" prices. Regards Ian. PS. MY Shell service which is supposed to give 11mogies is closer to 2 to 4. |

Sadly Chris, the market for old mags has suffered thanks to tecknowleggy. A 6 foot ( 2 Mtr) pile of mags is equal to a maximum of 2 DVDs. Part of my collection of M/Es was a gift from an unknown vendor for the price of petrol to go and pick them up. Sad that many lovingly collected tombs of information end up at the local recycling centre but heaven forbid anyone that invokes the wrath of the publishers screaming the big 'C' word. Regards Ian. |
Thread: How to remove this pulley? |
01/07/2023 10:05:30 |
"There were two SET screws" ??? Given that there was a washer and retaining screw on the end of the shaft would suggest the pulley could float off the shaft at worst case of non clamping. Regards Ian. |

Definitely a 'Poly-Vee' drive so don't even think about making making a plastic version. On end view of motor shaft, looks to be a sleeve (Tapered?) between the shaft and the pulley. O/P is not giving us any clues as to whether there are any grub screws in the pulley. Regards Ian. |

Just got another one ( I think) from GOVUK . Seems I've been under paid to the tune of about £350 on energy supplement, Fill in the following details to reclaim. As this was originally refunded direct to my account by the energy supply company, I wonder why GOVUK needs all my location and banking details? Another entry to the ineffective 'Phishing' and 'Block' buttons on T'internet. Regards Ian. |

Yep, the crushed tin can as a Physics experiment in skools sixty odd years ago. Sympathy to the families, why? the participants didn't think of this when signing their lives away on their jaunt. After a family day on board one of the Navy's tin tubes part of which was underwater, I initially had trouble coming to terms with the inevitability of the results of something going wrong with the boats my partners two Sons were crew on, especially given the 'Games' involving another nation in particular and the fact that we wouldn't get to know the full facts of demise due to an 'Incident'. Her attitude was that in this event, THEY were doing what they wanted to do. At least they were part of a professional 'Company' for whom the last catastrophic accident occurred more than sixty years ago. Regards Ian. |
