Thread: What to buy |

I know where you are coming from Haggerleases. A far eastern machine will doubtless do everything you ask of it . They are made down to a price and that is reflected in the build quality. The finish and feel of the finer details can be somewhat lacking and hard to accept for some of us. At the end of the day the machine is a means to an end (a tool) to create something that IS pleasing and satisfies the desire for perfection with which many of us are afflicted. Adrian. |

Thread: How to get that high end paint finish |
13/04/2019 10:43:39 |
I am not familiar with the paint you are using Adrian. If you are intending to use your lathe when completed , oil and suds can soften and lift paint particularly new paintwork. After all your hard work and care will you be able to live with this if it happened? Regards, Adrian2

I have been considering one of these machines for a while now, and followed Robert Askew's posts with interest regarding the problems he is experiencing with his new machine. His post generated a lot of discussion and opinion. I am sure like me, other members would be interested to know the latest developments. Over to you please Robert. Regards Adrian. Thread: Tauco drill press |

I too have a Tauco, the exact model as shown in the drawing. Acquired from work many years ago , a few bits missing. It has been my woodworking drill. Good solid well made machine. Adrian. |

Thanks Alan, I like 'sound' of that. Adrian. |

That looks the business Alan, really compact with a good capacity. How noisy is it? Can you liken the sound to something? Regards Adrian. |

Thread: Fixing a bronze bush in wood. |
07/12/2018 08:53:31 |
Robin, I used the knurled method many years ago on bushes pressed into the rails on the swing gear of a rocking horse. Straight splines, quite heavy, parallel with the bore of the bush. Worked a treat no adhesive needed. Adrian.

Thread: Unnecessary waste of paper |

Barclays Bank recently closed my local branch. I have now transferred my affection to another bank. A smooth and trouble free transition. Last week I received from Barclays, copies of statements for the previous five years. Almost 90 sheets of A4 paper. They are legally obliged to offer this service unless I requested otherwise. Had they asked (which they did not) I would have declined. It would take one letter on one sheet of paper to simply ask the question. I hate to think of the needless waste if this is common practice throughout the banking industry. Adrian. |
Thread: Super seven spindle extension tube. |
31/10/2018 18:21:15 |
Yes mine is the same Andrew. It looks like you leave off the steel cover disc on yours and run it open. When boring, it easy to forget to remove the disc and in goes the swarf. I made the alloy cover to provide closer protection around the spindle. Brian, my previous lathe was an ML7R and the spindle projected far enough through the cover. I never needed to extend it. I thought about the pipe up the hole as you have done. It is easy to get carried away. Sledge hammers and wall nuts. Regards, Adrian. |

I am the second owner John, I repatriated this one from Canada. It has the North American gearbox fitted. Adrian. |

This is my solution, easily accomplished, as my lathe already has the black finish threaded collar shown. There are two opposing holes for a 'c' or peg spanner. What is this collar intended for and what is the significance of the figures on the spindle ? Manufacturing tolerance or error maybe. Thank you.

I have a swarf guard made from plastic DPC attached to the front of my Myford saddle, it overhangs front and back and sheds debris clear of the ways. Most of the ferrous particles can be lifted off with my magnetic swarf stick without any ill effects. The stick is great for lifting swarf from the tray. Even when machining non ferrous material there is always a residue of steel particles, sufficient to get caught up and lift other material. Much kinder to your hands. Adrian.

Thread: Myford saddle stop |

That location no longer being available to me, I eventually came up with this alternative idea. I made a crude mock up with a block of wood and a dowel to see if it was a goer . Having lived with it for a while now I can say that I am very pleased with it, the locking wheel only needs a light nip to lock the stop and it is positive and does not slip. It would of course have to be removed should the taper turning attachment be required, but this is a very infrequent requirement for me. Edited By Adrian 2 on 31/07/2018 15:15:53 |

Stan ,the lead screw column shows the change wheels required to complete the gear train selected. The numbers refer to the number of teeth on the change wheel to be fitted to the lead screw. Hope that helps. Adrian . |
