Or call: 0344 243 9023 I tried calling them on the above number. It went to the right firm, but they had no knowledge of this offer or of the code '341FP'. Also - does the £1 offer get both magazines, or is it 2 separate £1 offers, one for each magazine ?

And set the cutting tip to centre height. Indeed - they seem quite sensitive to getting that right.

As the OP of the aforementioned thread I can confirm that setting them as recommended in that thread does work - and very nice holes they make, too. |

Bob, the dish is in the cutter so that the outside edges cut, a couple of degrees should do the job it’s not critical. Is that just the end mills, or does it apply to the slot drills too ? |

I don't know the official answer, but why not just use the same angles as on the cutter. A. All my end-mills are old and second hand, and have been reground by amateurs to all sorts of different angles...

Thanks folks. Re: the 'dish' angle, do I take it that this slopes up from the outside edge of the cutter to the middle - i.s. the 'dish' is in the end mill itself, not in the resulting cut ? |

I've just completed the end-mill accessory for the Worden, and am keen to try it out. I need to establish the correct angle of relief behind the end-face teeth on an end mill. I can find plenty of learned treatises which refer to it as 'dish angle' or 'end relief', but nothing which tells me how many degrees it should be. The usual helpful books (Sparey, Bradley, Tubal Cain) don't seem to specify it, and it doesn't appear in the Workshop Practice series books I have either. The end-mills are the sort of tool-steel items used by model engineers 30 years ago, and will be mainly used on mild steel and brass, in a Myford VMB mill. |

Thread: Mot grace |
29/03/2020 12:46:55 |
Got mine done on Wednesday - it was booked for Thursday but the garage rang up calling it in a day early, as they were going to close for the duration on Thursday, and I was the last job they could fit in beforehand. Got back from the MOT, turned on the radio, and heard that I'd have had 6 months grace after all... I wonder if the renewal date on these deferred MOT's will be 12 months after the date of the deferred MOT, or 12 months after the date on which the MOT was originally due ?

Thread: Buying online delivery problems. |

The cautious approach I'm taking came from one of our suppliers (can't remember which). When taking delivery of anything non-perishable (parcel or letter) first put it, still packaged, in an isolated place (I use our porch) for 24 hours, and immediately wash your hands thoroughly. After 24 hours remove the packaging or envelope without (if possible) touching the contents, dispose of the packaging safely, then wash your hands thoroughly again. You are now as safe as you will ever be to handle the contents... As for the Post Office - our local one is in the Co-op, but is shut anyway for lack of staff. Bob, I wouldn't worry too much about the boiler, it has a pretty good safety-margin. I made mine, my first ever boiler. When I hydraulic tested it I misread my gauge, and took it up to 300psi instead of the 30 I was aiming for... Apart from a slightly distorted top it survived the experience, and has given good service ever since. Edited By Bob Unitt 1 on 23/03/2020 14:20:23 |

I have a 40 year old old Myford/Dickson QC toolholding system on my 254S. How hard would it be to make my own holders on the 254 and a VMB mill, are accurate drawings available anywhere and what's the best material to make them from (for pretty light usage) ? Thread: Old model engineer magazines |
12/03/2020 11:27:25 |
When I last moved house (2010) I had a large collection of ME, MEW & EIM for which I wouldn't have room in my downsize-for-retirement new home. These spanned anything up to 40 years (I'd inherited a lot from my father-in-law too), so there were several large boxes full. I gave the whole lot to the local ME club (happened to be Hereford SME) to do with as they would - far more satisfactory than binning them |

One thing to watch is vertical clearance for a drawbar - in my original workshop I had to cut a hole in the ceiling plasterboard to allow me to remove the drawbar, fortunately it cleared the underside of the upstairs floorboards by about 1/8"... |
