Mot grace

Not sure if everyone is aware about the ruling on vehicle MOT. If it runs out, you 6 months grace. So you can still re tax it.

Got mine MOT'd and serviced last Thursday, we live in the sticks so rely on our own transport, we didnt have much of a bus service in normal times, now I fear it will vanish.

Got my MOT done early this month plus major service & toothed belt change etc cost me a small fortune!

We are still expected to keep the vehicles in a safe condition!

I live just off the busy maim road to Portland that is part of Weymouth's busiest bus route - about 10min intervals on weekdays. Presently it is on Sunday times, but some of the bus services around Weymouth have been suspended completely. I saw two buses this morning, in opposite directions, with only 3 or 4 passengers each.

(It's all right - I was combining authorised exercise with essential shopping - a stroll to the Co-Op for scran.)

I was due an MOT next week and was relieved when the six month grace was announced as my garage (an independent) had advised that they were having difficulty getting parts to effect repairs in the event of a fail. At worst this could have resulted in an unusable vehicle returned home on trade plates. They further advised booking the next test as soon as possible as there will be a huge demand for test slots in six months time.

Got mine done on Wednesday - it was booked for Thursday but the garage rang up calling it in a day early, as they were going to close for the duration on Thursday, and I was the last job they could fit in beforehand. Got back from the MOT, turned on the radio, and heard that I'd have had 6 months grace after all...

I wonder if the renewal date on these deferred MOT's will be 12 months after the date of the deferred MOT, or 12 months after the date on which the MOT was originally due ?

Woohoo I thought when the MOT news was announced, I won't need to get the motorbike MOT'd in May. Then reality kicked, MOT or not, when am I going to use it?

I wanted to avoid going to the garage so held off waiting for the government advice.

Mine ran out at midnight yesterday, One day later and I would have made the exemption.

The government advice is I have to get it MOTd if i need it for essential purposes (I need to drive to the shop) so I'm booked in for tomorrow and hoping it passes, although I know it hasn't got any serious issues.

Ridiculous.

As I said I had mine MOT'd and serviced on Thursday, it needed an anti roll bar link which my garage had no difficulty getting from local suppliers, based on other makes of car mine is not that popular, my nearest main Dealer is twenty five miles away and had already had a letter saying they were shutting down.
