Thread: Dimensional errors in LBSC Doris drawings |
30/11/2014 22:29:03 |
Hi Richard I have built and still have a 31/2" Doris, I don't remember any real issues with the drawings but I have always used drawings as a guide only and check things before I cut. I don't remember problems with the regulator but it was a long while ago when I made it. Stan |
Thread: Which spray gun? |
23/11/2014 22:32:03 |
Simon Forget the enamel paints none of these can be wet and dried as the paint hardens from the outside and the inside remains soft for a long while, nitro cellulose dries through and can be wet flatted and re polished with compound or even metal polish, so if you are unlucky and get a run it can be rubbed out as for lacquer you can buy cellulose lacquer or blending clear. Simon Take Pauls advice don't go down the Two-Pack road, you need air fed mask and full protective clothing to spray it, the hardener is Isocyanide the stuff that killed all those Indians when the Union Carbide plant exploded. Even with all the proper PPE we had to have hospital checks every 12months Cellulose used with paper mask is far safer and can still be bought in solid colours. Stan |

Hi Simon Another thing you have to think about is what paint you are going to use, the viscosity is very important I did paint spraying for 6yrs at a Ford main agents and used a suction DeVelbiss also high end, but I use a standard 1ltr gravity fed Draper and achieve good results. Very good advice by Al Learn how to clean it a lot of jobs can be spoilt by a part blockage or hard bit of paint being sprayed out. Stan |

Hi John All my locos are painted in cellulose which you can still buy in solid colours from any car paint suppliers, I always put a thin coat of etching primer on leave for 24 hours and paint no problems with heat and dries fast Stan |
Thread: LBSC Doris |
10/11/2014 22:45:32 |
Hi Richard I built a LBSC Doris and still have it, it is not easy but you should not be afraid to make it, most parts are the same as any other loco so it wont matter which you pick. I have still got all the drawings and copies from ME on how to build it. Stan |
Thread: Loctite for cast iron |
02/11/2014 22:20:16 |
Hi Neil That's correct Trichloroethylene which when I worked on the old buses in the late sixties it was used in the old fire extinguishers under the name of pyrene, we pumped gallons of it into oil coated clutches. We also had a de-greasing tank with it in and when boiled it came up as a mist and then was condensed by cold water through copper pipes, it cleaned anything including our overhaul's. Stan |

Good Look Stan |

When I worked for the local bus company in the late 50s and early 60s the Guy Arabs had 5LW Gardener engines and no gaskets were used the sump, timing cover and rear housing all sealed with wellseal in tubes. Stan |
23/08/2014 22:25:49 |
Stag and Wellseal are two different products, Stag is red and messy and Wellseal is brown and cleaner to use, Hylomar is blue and was used by Rolls Royce and Gardener diesels on all there engines. Stan |
