Thread: Dremel 3D40
18/12/2016 12:51:35

Looks nicely made, prices vary quite a bit, PLA filament is rather expensive at £19.94 for a 1/2Kg roll, I think it's possible to print a different holder to allow 1Kg rolls of filament to be used.

Looking forward to see your printed examples.

It might be worth having a look at a series of four video's by Stefan Gotteswinter, describing making a power feed for a milling machine.

Thread: 6mm collet chuck

Could you use an ER11 collet chuck with a straight shank, and a 6mm collet.

They are available with a number of different shank lengths and diameters.

It might be worth having a look at myfordboy on YouTube, part 12 of his constructing a traction engine article, which uses a cheap pencil gas torch as the basis of the gas burner.

Thank you Bill and Roy, I googled jacot tool and found a few examples, all of which seemed a lot more elaborate than the one I have.

Thread: Diesel injector fuel lines
16/06/2016 14:05:28

If they are the spill pipes, then very little pressure involved, most modern diesel engines use plastic or synthetic rubber pipework normally just held with a small spring clip.

It might be possible to cut out the rusting bits of pipe leaving stubs that you could put the rubber type pipe onto.

Vauxhall dealers used to sell a length of pipe suitable for replacing spill pipes on the early Vectra diesels

I am also trying to do the same as you, but for a different reason, making an adaptor to set timing on a two stroke motor cycle engine.

I am getting same sort of readings as you i.e. 2.42 mm major thread diameter.

I have poor eye sight and not able to compare thread with a thread pitch gauge, even with the aid of an illuminated magnifier.

I have 7BA and 2.5mmx.45 taps and these do not fit the thread in the DTI shaft.

Thread: Making small helical gear(s)
07/06/2016 15:33:42

This looks like a seat adjusting motor from a Mondoe or Jaguar, these are available on eBay made in brass.

They are rather pricey but, they do last OK

Search for Mondoe seat adjustment gear will show a few, all about the same price.

Just come from a Radio Rally at Stockwood Park, and in the Discovery Centre they have a free Steam Rally, it had not started when we left at 11.30.

Thought it might be of some interest to forum members.

Thread: iPad Battery is failing ...
21/05/2016 09:51:02

Hello,

Apple offer a battery replacement service, £75.00 plus £7.44 return postage.

All the batteries offered on the famous auction site are not genuine.

Also iPads are rather difficult to dismantle, without damaging the touch screen.

Thread: 1000w Induction Heater
25/11/2015 18:59:16

Thank you all for the replies,

I purchased the heater from a seller called wishyou-happy for £25.79 including P&P , it arrived very quickly, I do not think I could have sourced the parts for any less, and it's ready made.

The coil is as received and might have been squashed in the post, I will space the coils out before using it.

Dave I had already watched the YouTube video before I purchased the heater, and John De Armond I have looked on your website and have made note of your comments regarding a separate gate supply.

I have ordered a 48 volt 10 Amp power supply, but it has not arrived yet.

Would it be worth sliding fiberglass sleeving onto the coil?

I will report on its performance when the supply arrives.
