Hi Bob,
I don't have a manual on the Soba rotary table but I have this document on using a rotary table which you may find useful. I do not remember the website where I found it. It is in a "Dropbox" folder which I will remove after a few days. If anyone wants it after this time PM me with an email adress and I will send it as an attachment.

Hello Bob!

I have the ”SOBA operation and service manual” for my 6” SOBA rotary table.
I think it is dedicated to other sizes of SOBA rotary tables.
If you are interested please let me know and I'll send it to some electronic address.
If you intend to use the address made available by Chris, please take care to know, first, if the executable file necessary to make the download of the document you want doesn't let some kind of spy or something in your computer.

Best regards
Dias Costa

Thanks Les I have this and there is some useful and interesting info in this.

Thanks Chris I tried this earlier today and couldn't get the download to work. Perhaps it's an iPad thing, I'll try on the pc later.

Thanks Dias. An email to [email protected] would be great.

Thanks all

Bob

The document Les found is really excellent, but note that it is for a table with a 72:1 (5 degrees per turn) worm. This is unusual as most are 60:1 (6 degrees) or 40:1 (9 degrees) - be aware you will probably need to allow for this.

I am inspired to make a larger index wheel for my table with rather more divisions (although 180 to get the same 2 second divisions seems a bit of a challenge!)

Note:

It's worth going back up to a higher level on their website

... Lots of useful info. !!

Hello "Bob Perkins",

The file is there but as Dcosta pointed out be very carefull as the site will try and download some other software to your PC. When it leaves you at the "download" screen simply use your browser to back-up (go backwards) one screen and you will find one of those little boxes to fill in a code, do this and "submit" then a couple of lines above you will seee PDF you are after, simply "right click" it and save, is a good file.

Also thanks to Michael, the PDF you made available is really good

Hi Brian

I caught on to that when I looked at the site earlier. It tries to download some type of media player\reader.

Thanks

Bob

Hi Bob,

Yes it is one of those sneaky sites, in fact I just checked out the file I downloaded and found it to be corrupted so can't open it. Deleted it and hope I did not get any other "junk" with it, might go back later and figure out what happened, in the meantime I'll do a Google and see if the manual is available elsewhere.

Hello Bob Perkins!

Have you received the file I sent to you yesterday?
If so was it of some help?

Best regards

Oeeeer, I think my rotary table is 90:1, ie, 4° per turn of the handle - Andrew

40:1, 60:1, 72:1, 90:1 are all fairly common, and are all "good" ratios for the job, because they have some useful factors. [Although, of course, 40 lacks 3; which must therefore be accommodated elsewhere in the system.]

They are all also factors of 360; which simplifies dividing into "degrees".

MichaelG.

P.S. If adding a Stepper Motor to a 40:1 table, it's worth considering a 48-step motor instead of the now common 200-step ... so as to introduce the factor 3.

I didn't like the look of that site either.

Here is a direct link to six more pages on the LittleMachineShop site.

Now that it looks like you have the answer - can I hi-jack your thread? Some while ago,I bought a 4" rotary table from a UK supplier, but never got around to using it! Now that it's out of guarantee, I've dug it out and tried it. It seems to have been manufactured using a revolutionary elliptical worm gear, in that it has a couple of tight spots when turning a full circle. I'll try to sort it when I have more time. However, my question to you, Bob, is, assuming you've got one, how good is the Soba one? I've arrived in the UK today and was intending to go to Chronos in Dunstable, on Monday, to pick up one with tailstock and dividing plates. Don't want to spend all that money and have a wasted journey if they are of dubious quality!

Hi John

I'm really pleased with mine. The quality for the price is good value. I haven't used the index plates or the tail stock yet as I've only had it a few weeks. I've only used it a couple of times to mill 4 slots at 90 degrees to each other. The movement is smooth with no tight spots. I think Cronus supply theirs with a user manual, if not I have a PDF thaks to Dias.

Happy shopping

regards

Bob..
