Hi Phil H

I think there will be adequate travel on the spindle. I'm looking to overcome similar issues when I'm using a rotary table in the horizontal or vertical. I bought an 80mm swivel vice at the Ally Pally, and it's great, but has reduced the clearance I have a bit more than my old vice.

Hi all

I would be interested to have some feedback on your thoughts, experience or comments on fitting a 50mm riser block at the base of the column of a mini mill to add a bit more distance between the spindle and table.

I used an old B&D battery drill motor, plenty of torque at low speed. Took the leadscrew out, drilled and tapped the end and loctited in an extension piece. This connects to the motor with a simple pin to couple the two together. This is easy to pull to disengage the drive. Drilled and tapped 2 holes in the end of the bed and made spacers to mount the motor and cover. Controlled from an PWM controller and old laptop PSU. Total cost @ £30. Been working reliably for several years now.

built my powerfeed from a 12v battery drill motor and an eBay speed control unit. Cost @ £30 in total. I drilled the end of the leadscrew, tapped it and screwed and loctited an extension piece. This has a hole drilled through it which I just push a pin through which engages in a hole in a collar fitted to the drive shaft. Powered from an old laptop psi. Not over engineered but works well and has been reliable.

I built my sx2 powerfeed from an old 12v B&D battery drill, a speed controller from eBay and some bits I had lying around the workshop. Cost was @ £40. There are some pics in my machines album and some video on my YouTube channel.

what sort of flows/pressure and concentration are you expecting from your design?

I am using a 4" on my SX2. I feel any thing else would be too big.
