warco/mashstroy 220 lathe

Hi

can anyone help, i need to replace the vee pulley on the motor of a warco 220 metal turning lathe (made by mashstroy of bulgaria) I am at a loss as to what sizes the 3 pulley dia`s are, any idea`s. Warco say it is now obsolete so can not help, not very helpfull.

Ring them next week, when all the technical staff are back from Sandown. You may get  an answer from someone with more knowledge.

Take your belt to the nearest car parts shop or as a last resort a Halfords ask them to match it but beware if you say it is for a lathe you will be asked to make/repair/do anything for the local car/bike you name it people. Good luck

It seems to be the actual pulley he needs not the belts.

if you have the original pulley you can measure the outer diameter of each which is how they are defined. You should then be able to locate a suitable pulley from a supplier such as here or here there are many on the internet. Vee pulleys come in standard steps and you could always use a 4 groove pulley if you can't get a suitable 3 groove - just get someone to turn off the spare pulley 'groove' if your lathe's not working. It is unlikely to be a specially designed and made one . Motor shafts are also standard.

If no-one on this site has a similar lathe and can measure the pulley up for you, you might try a request for information on homeworkshop.org.uk.

Alternatively, if you know the motor rpm, you could try calculating the pulley sizes required to produce the spindle speeds of 125 to 2000 rpm quoted here.

I have a 220 and may be able to measure them in a day or three (lots of other stuff requiring my attention).

Can I ask firstly why do you need measurements? And secondly, which actual measurements do you want, eg outer diameter/groove base diameter, groove width, etc.

Pete i have lost the motor while my lathe was in storage for many years and of coarse the motor had its pulley on, i have found a replacement motor and now need to find a pulley, I just need a ball park idea of the pulley base diameters.

The more important thing is going to be the size of the belt. ie width to get the right size groove so you can measure that off the spindle pulley. Then just get the smallest pulley that will fit the motor as you are not likely to have much of a choice.

Is the original speed chart on the lathe? If you know your new motor speed and the speed ranges on each of the steps on the original motor pulley could it not be simply worked out using simple calculations? Then I would fit a temporary pulley on your new motor to get the lathe turning and turn yourself up a new stepped pulley from aluminium or cast iron billet material?

Ok, I already have a part completed drawing of the drive pulley. I'll remove the pulley and then start measuring so that I can then complete the drawing which I should then be able to send to you sometime over the next few days.

I'll try to contact you via the personal message system when it's done - we can take it further then.

I've just come back from a few days caravanning, had to clean it, get it serviced and then arrange for some minor repairs to it; the garage workshop now requires tidying up and other things to do as well as I'm still trying to catch up from the summer holiday. That's the reason for the delay.

My pleasure Dave, and it wasn't any bother because I have an idea for the future which will entail making a new pulley for myself, so the drawings will not be wasted.

I'm actually now in the process of cleaning up the drawings and guestimating what I think the measurements should actually be - which will be what I will be working to. I'll replace the present drawings with the updated ones shortly.

Re the motor wiring.

There have been a few threads here which deal with motors - I think there was one recently but as I don't have a problem with mine, I sort of made a mental note and moved on. If you haven't got it, I can supply the wiring details for the control side of things. But as it's in the manual, I expect that you have already got it.
