Hi, page 30 of MEW 160 mentions a facility on this site to search for an article in MEW, but darned if I can find it.

Could someone help please

What I am actually searching for is an item on construction of a compound slide with a base plate to fit a cross slide with T slots.

This forum doesn't even have a respectable way of searching the forum except by keywords in the title. Which rather defeats the purpose of having a forum because if it can't be found then all the useful information contributed here may as well have gone into a black hole.

Now that I have finished ranting here is a searchable MEW index http://www.itech.net.au/modelengineer/MEW_magazine.aspx although a search for compound slide didn't find anything.

Harold Hall has also compiled an index http://www.homews-mew-index.co.uk/

Hi,

Yes this appears to work Ok, though I find the instructions a bit strange to follow, if you "click the red box" you close down the page. Can't see any other red box.

I just follow the resultant pages as I would a "normal" Google search

But this does not answer my original question of
" page 30 of MEW 160 mentions a facility on this site to search for an article in MEW."
as the above facility onlt searches the forums.

In hope

Brian

Hi There

I get a google search box pop up.

When I enter search site search on this it searches the web, not the website hence the instructions. It does appear to have stopped doing this.

The box should search the site.

This is not a part of this website, I just added it to let you search.

It does search the site, not just the forums.

I just searched for

The Swansea site has very limited

which is on the home page and it found it.

regards David

Sorry, I can't follow this. How do I get to the Google seach box with a tickable box saying 'only search the Model Engineer website'?

I can't remember ever seeing a red box on Google.

Thanks

Hello Brian in OZ!

I am building a small application aimed to query on an available index on the MEW articles. If You (or anyone else) are interested in using it, please let me know and I'll send it to You by PM.

The application is completely functional but like most other things I do is an unfinished work.

With a few modifications this application will grow to query a EiM available index file.

Note: For the development I counted with the precious opinions, sugestions and critics of Mr. Graeme Walker (Coal Burner).

Best regards

Dias Costa

Hello all.

In the note to my previous message i meant criticisms no critics

Just a consequence of writing in a language one doesn't know very well.

Best regards

Hi David, that box works really well - could you persuade the powers that be to make it part of the standard page?

Hello Brian in OZ!

With initials PM i intended to mean Personal Message.

In each message (except Your own) You can see at the bottom line a link under the words Message member . If You click on it a new editing window will open. The message You can write there, will be sent to the creator of the message where You clicked on.

As an example, if You click on that link in my message, You can send a new message to me through the forum, without exposing my e-mail address to all people. In that message, if You so want, You can write Your own e-mail address and I can use it to send the program to You and then You will know my e-mail address. In this way we can spare the others the minutiae of our comunications

Not sure if i was clear. If not, please, can someone help?

Best regards

Dias Costa

David,

That's a great help, thank you.

I have just extracted the few lines of html that produce this search box, and can now run it stand-alone.

... learning all the time.
