Back plates for Harrison lathe

I have an ex college Harrison 11" lathe with a 3 jaw and a 4 jaw chuck.
I would like to get another chuck for small accurate jobs as the current 3 jaw while a good chuck is just too big sometimes, problem is finding a backplate for one.
This lathe has the taper and a threaded ring to hold the chuck on, I seem to remember they were called something like OO fitting?
Having used Colchesters with the camlock fixing I find this a much better and more consistant fixing.
 
Anyway does anyone know of a supplier for these backplates, or does anyone have the correct name so I can search better.

I have used in the past a company called ROTAGRIP   lodge rd ,Hockley ,Birmingham,I assume they are still business,so many firms are disappearing.They supplied me with chucks and backplates for my colchester master,the chucks are eastern european and are quite good ,apparently there are currently  no chucks made in the uk.The fitting is usually designated L0 or L00 depending on size of spindle,they will know what you need,I have found them most helpful,they also have a large range of soft jaws to fit most chucks.Their phone no is 0845 1001566   I last bought a chuck from them in 2005. Hope this is of help.

Just looked on their website so I presume their still going,
£95 - £145 for a back plate depending on the size, think I'll try for a second hand one first!

Unfortunately Steve these L0 and L00 backplates are quite rare, add to that they are quite a lump of material and most backplate castings are too small to replicate the thread and taper so not many people make them.
 
Even second hand they fetch a premium.
 
I can remember paying £90 for a D1-3 at 8" before the imports came in.

I made a back plate from mild steel for my 1324bh Taiwanese,I got a 150mm 4 jaw to supliment the 200mm chucks that came with the lathe,but it has a fairly simple mounting system,the thread was easily cut.I think the most difficult part of the job was getting the lump of steel home on the bus-20kg is what I started with,it had been flame cut from a 75mm plate to 180 dia.Ian S C

Sounds like fun Ian, hope you didn't drop it on anyones toes.
I have thought about making one but as you have said it would be one huge peice of steel or cast iron.
I'm in no rush for this so I'll just keep an eye out for now at auto jumbles etc and if I do have to buy a new one at least I now have a supplier.

Tony Griffiths (lathes .co.uk) also sells backplates probably a bit cheaper than Rotagrip.

I'll keep an eye out for now as these all seem very expensive, makes me glad I got all the stuff I did with the lathe!

Hi if you see another back plate for 8 inch chuck please let me know have ones for small 4 jaw but deed one for larger chuck can anyone help need used one as others cost a fortune.
