Some time ago, I was given a Good Housekeeping aluminium baking tray - never been used as it was too big for the domestic staff. I had a project in mind for it and cut and folded it etc. I needed to epoxy glue some divisions onto it - but the glue would not bond. Cleaned the joint area with alcohol and re-glued the joints. Still no joy and then I assumed that the hard anodised finish was in fact some sort of non-stick finish which certainly worked !

Moral of this text - not all material is what it seems!!

I used to make aluminium mould parts for making plastic gas pipe fittings and they were hard anodized and PTFE coated to prevent wear as they were pulled from the plastic part after moulding.

I bought some hard anodized aluminium sheet and tried to spray paint it with etch primer for aluminium, the paint just fell off! You have to sandpaper it with fairly coarse stuff to get a key. Another piece of bare aluminium was ok.

SB5,

If those dividers were aluminium the ‘alutite’ (on sale at the exhibition) might be an ideal method of attachment.?

I replenished my stock on Thursday, so that I don’t have to be so stingy in choosing to use it, for a while.🙂

I believe most modern baking trays do come with a non-stick PTFE coating.

And how do they do those pork pies with an egg in the middle and in every slice the egg is the same size?

(I know the answer, but it might spark discussion devil)

Instead of allowing them in the henhouse you get them to lay by the yard.

Note: you can boil eggs in a kettle but you can't pour them out.

Grindstone Cowboy, I had to take her indoors shopping yesterday and we visited a Marks and Spencer’s food hall, I made a point of looking at their slices of pork pie with egg in the middle and they were using proper eggs, one slice of pie was an end piece and the other a middle bit with yolk. Being a rather sad person I checked all the packs on display and they were the same, obviously Marks and Spencer need to be informed of the continuous egg process, come on, spill the beans!

Well, I read an explanation of it in a Reader's Digest "How Do They Do That?" type book many years ago, and it involved various metal tubes and rods (but luckily for the chickens AFTER their input has ended).

Firstly, the whites are cooked in a tube with a central rod, forming an egg white cylinder, then the rod is extracted and raw yolk inserted and cooked. So you have, effectively, a very long egg which can be cooked into the pie.

Full marks to M&S (no pun intended) for not going fully industrial.

Why don't chocolate chips in chocolate chip cookies melt when they are being baked?

How did they get the tube-trains down the escalators?

(they took them down in pieces and reassembled them).
