Goodmorning everyone. I have a Myford S7 lathe. I am looking for a set to thread this screw. I measured 1 / 4X26 but I don't know if it's the right size because I can't find the tool to make the thread. You can help me?

Regards, Franco

1/4 - 26 is 1/4 BSF

BSF and 2 BA used all over MLS7s until near the end when they were probably finding new supplies were getting expensive and Nottingham started using some metric almost certainly to keep costs down.

My own is an early 1970s model with no metric.

Most UK model engineering suppliers and ebay sell imperial taps and dies and indeed fasteners etc as DBM points out there is also BA on the Myford

Franco:

Do you mean the screws which hold the saddle to the apron? If so, note that they have an over-size head to allow for front-to-back adjustment.

I understand that difficulty in obtaining these in BSF caused Myfords to use metric fastenings here on later lathes.

This company has the tooling & ships internationally;

Tracy Tools - 1/4 X 26 BSF

Like Roy suggests, I think the thread you need is 'BSF'

You need a 1/4 BSF nut and 1/4 washer to retain that Thread Indicator Dial.

And some sort of friction washer is desirable so that the TDI can be engaged and disengaged without the need for a spanner

I think Franco is making a new bolt to work with the Hemingway multi-position carriage stop.

"Penso che Franco stia facendo un nuovo bullone per lavorare con il fermacarro a più posizioni di Hemingway."

Yes I do

Surely a carriage stop held by that screw would be on the wrong side of the saddle

It pulls a rod carrying a detented disc with multiple ?rod or ?screw stops up against a kind of 'arrestor-block' , I think..

Diogenes II I would have thought that that would have been on the chuck side of the saddle, but I don't know the Hemmingway setup
