Even then and before I got my first microwave I didn't and don't use it every month. Most of African households don't have an oven and before colonisation introduced them to bread they got on ok. |

Some years back B&Q failed to deliver my new cooker which should have been delivered Christmas Eve after a few heated calls it was was myself and my wife could eat out or order in one hot meal a day until the cooker was delivered needless to say it didn't arrive until the new year so I had a sizeable bill for them and they got off light as I went to daughters Christmas day for lunch ! 1081 forum posts 39 photos | A few years ago my oven failed about five days before Christmas. It was still under the manufactures warranty and the model had a inherent fault, it had a pyrolitic self cleaning oven which failed. Ended up cooking the turkey at my fathers, twelve miles away, the day before. Got a replacement model in the new year, which had to then be replaced as they sent the wrong one. Took six months for them to get it all sorted. |

7517 forum posts 20 photos | Clive, Is your cooker a fan assisted oven only? Our main oven has other elements including a grill (which needs replacing). Even the smaller top grill oven has top and bottom elements as well as the overhead radiant grill. I often use a halogen oven and microwave and my wife likes to use one of the slow cookers (one for casseroles and one for chrissie puddings). Then there is the toaster and soup-maker…. |

![]() 2929 forum posts 41 photos | Not done it yet, Hi, yes it is a fan assisted oven and that is where the problem is. what happens the fan slows down and heating ring around the fan overheats and pops. It is very easy to fix as a few screws to undo and the cowl comes off. The two wires that come out you need to use a couple of pegs to stop thefalling back inside the panel. I did fit a new fan some time back and serviced the old one in case of future need. Maybe I will fit it. I will see. Managed a meal tonight, so thats OK. |

A source of replacement Whirlpool halogen elements for a hob would be most usefull. As pointed out by Clive, Espares seem to be one of the best suppliers of cooker parts. I have used them several times for cooker & fridge spares and they never failed me. regards |

![]() 3676 forum posts 82 photos | You can guess when the element failed on our fan oven, the Christmas turkey had about 45mins to go. The microwave combination oven saved the day, the turkey was a bit of a squeeze though. The spare element will at least give you peace of mind, I should order a spare for my new cooker just in case. 1585 forum posts 1 photos | I had a double oven and grill by Hotpoint, fitted just 2.5 years ago with new kitchen. Main oven started smoking so knowing that the make is an 'also ran', if I got parts replaced under warranty, how long would I wait and how long would they last? I decided to make use of my Which? mags and selected a highly recommended Zanussi, delivered installed and tested by a local retailer who took away the busted one for free, normally charge £18. Very happy with the much better quality version. |

![]() 2929 forum posts 41 photos | As the heating ring is on its way I have started to dismantle the heating ring and fan part of the oven, it has come apart OK, the heating ring has bubbled and has a small section burnt out. Now trying to get the connectors through the holes without getting them disconnected. The fan is free and rotates freely when spun. As I dismantled I am cleaning, dirty job. Worst biy is with my dicky back I am sitting on the floor doing it and then trying to get up is a painful task plus dog keeps coming up looking over my shoulder. 438 forum posts 2 photos | I worked at one time for the Benefits Agency and overheard one of the team leaders speaking on the telephone to a customer who was in need of a replacement cooker just before Christmas. This customer had had many grants and loans in the past and his request this time had been refused. In answer to the question "what are we going to do for Christmas dinner?" the team leader replied, in an empathetic, caring voice, "Well, you could have a nice salad." The customer was not impressed.
