Nothing new, business as usual

If the inquiry follows the usual route through the system we get the legal bods making millions and

"Lessons will be learned!"

as a conclusion

...while it gets dropped in the bin

(then rinse and repeat at the next event)

--------------------------

They opened a 900 kid school with no completion certificate in Edinburgh

Kid killed by a collapsing wall

The local government guys should really be in jail

Well, local authorities have been starved of funds for years and building inspections privatised. LAs have extremely limited resources to supervise contracts. Pay is so poor in planning and building control that anyone with real ability learns the ropes then gets poached by developers to apply their knowledge to gaming the system.

Don't think so - I keep giving them more money all the time to spend incompetently - then they complain it's the government's fault.

There was once a time when local authorities were a community asset but nowadays they are a massive liability, a corrupt millstone fastened around the neck of society

Local Councils take their pension cut, I understand that 14% of monies paid in Council tax go towards pensions for their staff.

30% in Edinburgh

Our clergy are very good to themselves

Reaping the rewards of being a failure seems to be the modern standard to strive for

John,.....No, council officers and managers are NOT "voted" in by anybody and exert massive power over the elected councilors,..at least in the local authority where I live.

Going back to Grenfell.....I see that the head of the company that supplied the dogey panels still won't talk to the enquiry and, get this!....is a part time fire chief somewhere in France!!?

Guys you can kick the council all you want, but to refer you to point one on the BBC link. When manufacturers do that how does a council find out?

I feel the need to lock this thread, but please remember the vast bulk of LA pensions go to staff, not elected officials.

This includes the cliche of 'binmen and dinner ladies', all of whom deserve a pension

And if you only look at council tax and ignore other sources of local authority income you obviously see the pension bill as disprportionately large.

-what you should do is compare the contributions to the wage bill.
