Picked this lot up today. Well chuffed.

Anyone hazard a guess as to how much it's worth?

Oh, not super-duper cheap. Just trying to make sure I didn't get ripped off.

The slip set, is Mitutoyo, but it's Grade 2 (plenty enough for me), well used and is missing the 20mm.

The depth gauge, again is Mitutoyo, but it's all lose in the box and one of the rods is a little bent.

The surface gauge is definable good/flat enough for what I require, but is chipped in the corner.

I need to make or purchase an adaptor for the DTI holder, as none of my DTIs will fit it.

Since I am a) pretty new to this and b) only plan to *play*, I'm pretty happy with it over-all.

If everything were brand new, it would probably run to four figures (gbp )

The slips ,would account for a quarter of that!, then nthe depth mic and the sine bar, and possibly nthe squares could be Reference quality! And the little Eclipse (? ) vice would not come cheap.

Now you have roused the green eyed monster!

Never fear Howard, apart from the square in the box, it's farrr from new.

This is the first cool haul I've had since starting the hobby.

Well apart from the end-mills I bought from the scrappy - still don't know if they're any good though TBF.

All good useful stuff, is that a 5" sine bar? A box of slips like that would probably fetch £80 on its own.

It is. And is slightly better quality than the 100mm one I printed.

..the pattern of both squares (the one in the box, and bigger one to left of the V blocks) - with bevelled edges and notch - is a "precision" pattern rather than "workshop" pattern - you should look at them carefully, unless you are sure they are just cheap c**p.. ..Do they have any marks/DIN stamps?

Now you can test your printed one to see exactly how accurate it is.

We have two 5" ones and a dinky 2" one at the museum.

I don't think any of this is cheap crap. I believe it all came from industry.

All 3 are stamped and have DIN numbers on. All 873.

I shall be testing the new metal one against my printed one.

I'd it doesn't measure up, it's going in the trash.

Some good gear there Lee. I found the Mitutoyo depth gauge at a booty with 1 rod missing for 15 smackaroonies.

I am guessing for the lot probably somewhere in the region of £ 250 to £400 .

So the bargains (at least I thought they were) here were:

The Surface Plate has a chip on the corner: £20

Slips have one 20mm piece missing: £50

Depth Gauge is a fully working complete set, but is a little tatty: £20

Vee Blocks with clamps: £30

Type 3 Vice: £30

Total: £320

Overall I'm quite pleased. Especially happy to be in the lower realms of your range.

It's worth, to you, whatever you paid for it.

Its worth, to anyone else, is whatever they are prepared to pay for it.

I find it strange (and not a little irritating) that a hobby/interest primarily based on tool usage, constantly harps on about whether or not it was a "bargain". Seems to me that the criteria should always be - does it work, if it doesn't, can it be fixed, do I have a use for it, etc.? Unlikely, however that practicality will outweigh the 'gloat' factor!

It's pretty common across multiple of my peer and interest groups to discuss their purchases and bargains. From my wife obtaining a nice piece of clothing in the sales, a peer buying a job-lot at a jumble sale or a colleague securing some nice shiney, next gen, hardware for work.

Since none of my friends or family show even a glimpse of interest in machining and tooling, this is the only place I can think of that people would care.

Was meant to be just a little show and tell, for interests sake. Certainly not gloaty!

Isn't the DTI holder mostly a scribing block?

Ordered from Italy on 11th Nov and delivered last Friday was my new Nebes TM125 bandsaw and I think she's a beauty!

Hi Dave, they are often referred to being a universal surface gauge.

Typical application shows a DTI in use with one.

I've wanted a chop saw type bandsaw for an age.

Just can't justify it, as I already have 2 vertical and 1 horizontal bandsaw.
