Thanks for that, Neil. I shall pass it on to my engineer daughter. We need far more women in engineering.

I've always liked Ruby Loftus.

Thanks for the heads-up Neil.

In the days of the 'Model Engineer Exhibition' of old, the first port of call was to the Competition Models to see the latest Cherry Hinds (later Hill) offering. Always magnificent, her models were generally to a scale smaller than the blokes and always looked as if a fairy had used her wand to make the original prototype shrink to fit the glass case!

Last saw her at Brooklands, is there any news of her current welfare?

Mike

In the linked material there is a reference to Laura Annie Willson, founder of WES, the Womens Engineering Society.

Laura Annie Willson, (nee Buckley) was the wife of George Henry Willson, founder and owner of the Willson Lathe Company of Ovenden, Halifax, which survived through WW2 and was eventually subsumed with others into the 600 Group.

Laura was also a leading light in the Womens Social & Political Union along with Emmeline Pankhurst.

The records of the early WES meetings etc are held in the library of the IET

Cherry is well as far as I know, I think I last saw her at Doncaster 2019.

You rang???

I spoke to Cherry by phone only a couple of weeks ago, she sounds her usual bright and cheerful self.
