Hello,

I’m David from Norfolk and for all the insomniacs out there or those bored with daytime tv here’s a little about me..

Like I suspect many on here I inherited my interest in engineering from my father who was both a mechanical engineer and an electronics engineer, I lost him in the early 00s but on a thoughtful day I can still smell his workshop. Through him I helped out at Bressingham during school holidays on their two Krupp 15” gauge locos Mannertreu and Rosenkavalier, I say helping.. it was more just riding on the footplate than actually doing work but it was very enjoyable and resulted in my steam addiction. I was already a Mamod owner courtesy of a kindly uncle who had bought me an SR1a (which I still have), I remember my parents commenting on him being ‘a bit showy’ leaving the price on the box, it was £7.25.

Anyway that’s enough of that, forward wind to now whenI’m in my 50s and staring at my newly acquired 2 inch Minnie TE with the dawning realisation that I know bugger all about traction engines! So now you know why I’m here.

See you on the forums!

Cannot help you on your project, but if you need help, you are in the right place, just ask !

Just ask, it,s all there and willingly given, I speak from experience.

You have only to ask, someone there has the answer.

PS You are never too late to start, at 50 you are only a young un with years of fun ahead.

Good luck with your build.wink

Thanks and you’re correct, I am already being helped 24hrs into my forum membership!

Incidentally my engine is complete but I need to get 100% familiar with it before I start lighting fires ha ha

David

You hopefully will get it sorted in time for the Weeting Steam Rally, plenty of scale steam engines running around there.
I'm in King Lynn so not far from you but I am unable to offer any help with your request as I am not a steamer.

Hi David, SOMEWHERE in the back bedroom will be the copies that covered the building of minnie. But there are several books that though not on the minnie will give you a good grounding in running a small engine. I have a large library , PM me and I'll see what we can do. Noel

Not sure about showing it because I’ll want to be walking around gawping at other’s engines but I’ll definitely be going to Weeting, I used to do Weeting, Haddenham & Woolpit every year but I slacked off recently.

Can I multi-quote on here? 🤔

Welcome David, the 2 inch Minnie is a nice engine.

I can well understand you wanting to get it in steam, but may I politely suggest checking on boiler test certificates before you light the fire?

Hopefully they came with the engine.

Bill

Thanks, I bought it as it looked like a robust useable engine rather than a display piece so it’s shortcomings as an ultimate true scale engine don’t bother me, I’m really pleased with it! There’s no certification I will have to get that done but I’ve plenty of research/learning to do before that.. fools rush in etc.
