Just joined the forum and saying hello. I've got a few years to go until retirement but it's time to start making plans. I studied mechanical engineering as a youth but got side tracked..

If all goes to well I'd like to have a small workshop where I can potter my time away on learning the practical things never taught in text books and trying my hand at whatever.

Off to have a more in depth look around the site.

Hi Roddy; welcome to the mad house. Just how 'far north' are you? I'm just on the south side of 'the Boro'... North Yorkshire ( always was & always will be ) otherwise more colloquially known as 'Smoggieland'

George.

Hello Roddy,

And I'm just outside Thirsk in North Yorkshire.

Not native though having worked my way up country over the years from a starting point in South London where we were pushed out rather rudely by Hitler's Blitz

North, north guys - Scotland. I live outside Edinburgh but hail from the Outer Hebrides. I've spent quite a lot of time pottering around with motorbikes and my engine builder is an 'old school' mechanic in Malton who's been a great influence.

I've got a decent bit of space ear marked for my new workshop and hope to build and equip a good sized space over the next few years.

Thanks again for the welcomes.
