Hi there!

Thanks for the replies, I will try to get down to measure the lathe, to give a better idea what We have.

At a rough estimate the total length is about 5'.

Many thanks, Pete

Hi Jon!

It certainly has the look of the Southbend, apart from the apron layout and tailstock design.

A good starting point, many thanks!

Thread: My cruise
12/10/2022 00:36:31

Hi Bill!

I agree with Your friend, and it answers a question for Us too!

We have been fortunate to go on four cruise previous to the Iona one, ( two on Azura, the maiden cruise of Britannia,

And one on Ventura), all good, but the experience on Iona was not good.

The Ship seemed 'faceless' in as much as You could walk from one end to the other without knowing You were on a P&O ship.

There was one cabin steward doing a lot of cabins on His Own, and He had no cleaner to help Him.

Resteraunt food was good, but the staff numbers were reduced which put them under excessive pressure.

The Buffet, always usually a highlght...... was awful!!!! Went once when We boarded, never went back, food very variable, slow refilling and temperature hit and miss, very disappointing.

Never went to a show,as We were led to believe We had to book on the 'App'' but found out on the last day We could have just turned up! (My Wife tried to use the app once and it took Her phone down)

Reception Staff did not seem interested at all ,not Our experience on previous cruises.

It put us off going with P&O again, if We did it would be on Azura/Ventura or one of the smaller ships, but We did not know if the standards had dropped on the whole fleet.I

Which ship did Your friend sail on Bill?

It would be interesting to know if they have messed one of Our favourites up!sad

All the best, Pete

Hi Bill!

Sorry to hear of Your holiday woes.

We sailed to Norway on Iona at the end of April this Year, took Covid tests just before going, and both had to get an Antigen test within 24 hours of sailing, but of a rush to be honest!

Joined the ship and caught covid on last day - onboard!

We wondered if they we're testing the crew to the same standard as the as the passengers??

Good luck with sorting things out and I hope You get to go on Your cruise soon!

Cheers, Pete

Hi David,

We had a kitchen refit last year, and the instructions for the induction hob said to keep away from it if You have a Pacemaker ( not workshop related but just for information )

Thread: Is this a new scam?
30/04/2021 18:05:33

Hi there !

Had an email today from 'Ebay', telling Me that I need to change My selling payments from PayPal to EBay direct.

I have had a quick look on Google and there has been talk of payment methods changing, but the alarm bells rang when It was easy to change over, just supply My bank details............

I didn't obviously.

Anybody else seen this one?

Cheers Pete.

Thread: What to do when you lose something
22/04/2021 16:41:26

Hi there!

"I can lose things in plain sight.

I know it is on the table right in front of me but I cannot see it.

It can be quite alarming when it suddenly pops back into my ken"

I think the technical term is reverse hallucination, been having them for years!!!

Thread: My easy solution to No More Clogged Spray Paint Rattle Cans
31/03/2021 00:00:40

Hi there!

I just pop My nozzles in a jar of thinners after use, fish them out when needed, give them a quick wipe with paper towel.

Pop them back on the can and spray a little paint through before starting the job proper.

Thread: Undoing a castellated nut!
11/03/2021 00:06:05

Hi there!

I think the nut Andrew is describing is classed as a lock nut (We also called them SKF nuts) which were widely used on our machinery at work. We made our own box spanners from steel tube to tighten/loosen them. They used a tab washer to lock them.

As opposed to a castellated nut.

Thread: Replacing Oilite Bushes in ML7 Countershaft bracket
05/02/2021 23:57:20

Hi William!

I worked for a major tyre manufacturer (Pirelli) for many years (just retired!), And in My earlier career there I worked as a Fitter's Mate in the workshop that maintained the tyre building machines.

These made profuse use of Oilite bushes that needed frequent replacement due to wear, and the procedure We used to change them was to simply push the old bush through with the new bush, usually in the bench vice with a suitably sized socket behind to cover the old bush on the way out.

Probably not the best pure engineering solution, but in worked without problems for the 10 years I was working on the job!

Cheers, Pete

Thread: My workshop improvements
18/12/2020 21:03:33

Hi Steve!

Top of My mill wishlist is a Tom Senior Light!

Been keeping My eye out for one for a while now but they are a bit thin on the ground!

Several M1 mills about but I would prefer the refined quill on the 'light'. MT2 not a problem, interchangability with the Myford!

Would definitely prefer an old British machine, the Tom wins over My other choice, a Centec, because of having a bigger capacity.

The search continues........

Cheers, Pete

Oh, just spotted a 'light' on Ebay, thick end of 3 Grand though........

Hi Steve!

Nice score on the storage, I am keeping an eye on EBay to see if a suitable bench for My shop appears, but have not decided on whether to get a bench top or floor standing mill yet.

I will probably end up making a fitted bench to suit.

Good thread idea!

Take care, Pete
