Hello There. As no reply to previous post .Will ask again .How many posts to access classifieds? I have bought before with none of this rigmarole. It hardly seems to benifit the advertisers.Potential sales are lost to them.. The p[eople i have bought from in the past just wanted to sell and reach as many buyers as possible..Your new policy appears to work against this.Perhaps you could explain the reasoning behind this? Your forums are very interesting and informative but i find your block on buying and selling hard to understand. Regards David.

David,

Try putting the phrase "access to classifieds" into the search box on the home page

**LINK** https://www.model-engineer.co.uk/

... You will find that the topic has been much-discussed.

David, I cannot answer your question definitively but I'm sure someone will do so, I believe however the system was set up to help prevent scam sales from overseas ?

If you follow the forum you will have seen the attempts by the internet’s undesirables to to take advantage of forum members not all of whom are sufficiently up to speed to defend themselves. Having a few minor hoops to jump through is a first line of defence and for regular participants of the forum is not an inconvenience. The adverts are from members to members so if you don’t join in then you will have to go through the initiation, luckily this is simpler than joining some rugby clubs or university society’s.

On another site(The Stirling Engine Forum), we regularly get invaded, and (I think), the site has had to be shut down 3 times over the last 10 years or so I;v been on it. We are lucky here that there is closer control by more moderators.

David, You basicly join here as a Model Engineer, not as a buyer and seller of machinery, that is an aside to the main topic. What are your interests as far as modeling/ home workshop?

As I understand it, the call for a minimum number of posts, is to deter those who would use the forum for incorrect purposes, (scams, purely as a market place, and so on)

Those with a genuine interest in Model Engineering will soon accumulate sufficient posts to gain access to the classifieds.

Most use the Forum, to seek, or to give help, and to gain information. The posts make very interesting reading!.

Warnings of scams do feature!  And misuse is likely to result in the post being deleted by the Moderators.

Howard
