Just getting into engineering

10 forum posts 12 photos | Hi all I've recently got into engineering mainly model and really enjoying it. It's started from an engineer friend who's built models for years, seeing what can be achieved really intrigued me so dicided to have a go. He kindly gifted me an emco unimate 3 mill and a super adept lathe which my first project was a 10mm spacer for my headstock on my mountain bike. When that came out brilliant I looked around for plans and ideas. My friend let me have various model live steam plants to finish or restore which are my little side projects, whilst I was scanning the web I came across plans for a miniature V8 aero engine desgined by Eric Whittle and that got me wanting to have a go. So got the materials together and started but realize that the little super adept was struggling alittle so my friend very kindly got me a myford ml7 which I blooming love such a well built machine. That got me really going, so with a few more tools some heavy head scratching figuring out how to get 2" round ally bar into 1 5/8" square on a lathe I was started. But my first attempt wasn't right so have started again and decided to do two like another gentalman on https://whittlev8.wordpress.com. As well as this project I've also got given plans and frame material to build a Sweet Pea locomotive of which I've marked up and getting ready to drill. When I've figured out how to put photos on I'll get them on. |

1074 forum posts 290 photos | Welcome CB. A friend, who used to be a member of my ME club in the Midlands, moved to Launceston a couple of years ago and was dismayed to find there was no equivalent club within an hour's drive. If you're in the same boat, is there anything to be gained by communicating? |
