The Mann tractor at Hollycombe is currently away for work on the boiler and some other remedial work. When it is back I can get details, measurements and photos as needed as I am there a couple of days a week. Keeps me out of mischief in retirement

I have driven the Mann steam tractor which is at Hollycombe. It is an interesting thing to drive, the same front end as the roller. I see that the safety valve outlet is beside the chimney on the roller, on most Mann engine sit feeds into the chimney, which is not helpful when blowing off as it draws the fire more. I have seen that roller at the Great Dorset Steam Fair a few times

A team effort, having seen something similar in Engineering in Miniature I made a rough sketch, which my nephew drew up and a friend 3D printed. They are holders which screw to the wall to hold ARC C3 quick change tool holders. There are more photos in my album. They work well, the countersink was not right for the screws I have (my fault for not measuring and specifying correctly) so I made them bigger. I have a mix of Arc and Chester tool holders and had not realised that the knurled locking nut on the Chester ones is bigger than the Arc ones so that stops those from fitting on the holder. I have a couple of spare Arc ones so swopped the nuts over and will make new smaller nuts for future use. The files will be uploaded to Thingyverse soon, I will let you know if anyone is interested.

There is a horology degree course at Birmingham University where they learn actual physical skills. My nephew is in the second year where he has to service a wide variety of watches having chosen to study watches rather than clocks. Seeing a ladies watch reduced to its component parts I know my eyesight would not be good enough. In the third year they have to make replacement parts themselves.

Greetings Charles, I am over the hill, living in Widley. I have been a volunteer at Hollycombe for a very long time and since retirement to at least one day a week so I don't spend all my time in the shed on my own.

Having been given a set of DROs for my milling machine I find 2 are slightly too long. I didn't fancy having them overhanging, is it ok to cut them down to the correct length? They are the ones with remote readout from Arc.

Far better than throwing them in the skip. I was given something the other day, a glass surface plate dated 1944. In a fitted wooden box. Looked on tinternet and it said glass surface plates were made during the war to save using metal.

You were obviously being creative John.

I now have the plans so bad better start sorting out what I have, interrupted by the annual trip to Le Mans from Wednesday 😊😊

I have been given this in a box of assorted bits from a friend, can anyone identify it please? I know it is an oscillating engine and this is all I have of it. Would anyone have a drawing so I can complete it? Would make a good little project I think

If you want to keep the domestic authority happy, maybe have a pair of slippers/maccasins/crocs/shoes which you only wear in the workroom and take them off as you exit to save walking swarf through the flat

At Hollycombe we used to charge the extra for gift aid, but have found it far more effective to go the free return admission for a,year. More people with up for that and and returning visitors increase income in the cafe and shop.

It depends on what June is doing at the time.....

There is a model engineering club in St Teath, they exhibit at the Exeter garden railway show in October. They have a web site, but I cannot copy and paste the address here in my kindle.

There is 1 Walker centre engine, 1 Rodman centre engine with organ engine and 2 Savage centre engine with organ and at Hollycombe. Who remembers Top Trumps ? ☺
