Is anyone else having problems reading the latest issue of ME (4605) in the archive under Windows?

The Viewer appears to have been changed ... I get a tiny thumbnail for 30 seconds to a minute then the cover appears but only govering 75% of the height of the screen, along the bottom of the screen is a row of all the pages, so you can go to any page! (A bit like the Exact Editions Viewer)

If you goto a page (you usuall see 2 pages at a time), you cannot read it as it only fills about 75% of the screen .... if you use the zoom control, it become readable but to navigate to another page you have to zoom out again. A real pain!

Also I cannot see how to print a page!

I am using Windows 7 - and have tried Internet Explorer and Firefox.

Older magazines all view OK.

I get access before most and have been able to read the new viewer without a problem. W10 and Chrome. Comes up in a couple of seconds for me so the small icon may be a connection speed issue.

Does go a bit too big when you click on a page and agree a pain to have to zoom out to turn the page

No, Right clicking brings up print but it does not do the whole page just what you are looking at.

What an absolute abomination of a magazine viewer, whilst the previous one was far from perfect, it functioned and was usable. What were they thinking when changing to this one, IMHO totally unfit for purpose.

I read and print (as required) using Chrome under Linux (Debian 9.4). Firefox works fine for reading but the printing has issues.

Peter what are you doing to be able to print a single page, we are talking specifically about the new viewer that has just been used for 4605.

I withdraw my earlier comment then! Didn't realize that the reader was implemented on an edition by edition basis, I only have access to MEW so my above post does not apply. Sorry.blush

I found that on the latest issue 4605 the display is different and there is no longer a 'print' tab at the top of the page when expanded. This was very useful when following a series enabling a build file to be created. It is then a bit tricky to print off pages. Will the print feature be reinstated or have I missed something? Andrew

Blimey, I hadn't expected it to go live so soon.

Support for Flash is being pulled and we have moved to a non-flash viewer. This is something some Forum members have been demanding for years.

I think it is going to be rolled out for past issues but I am not sure at the moment.

When zoomed in, the < and > buttons will navigate backwards and forwards.

Using the search box will bring up results on a pane at left.

I am finding the full screen button doesn't work here.

Bear in mind this is only the archive viewer, digital subscription and single issues are still viewed via pocketmags.

Neil, the problem with < & > when zoomed in is that when clicked they zoom you back out and you have to zoom in again to the new page. On the old one it would stay at whatever zoom % you had and go from page to page. I can see this being a right pain if flicking back and forth where photos or drawings are on a different page to the text, Last query on ATOM would be a good example as I was going from page to page trying to follow text and figs.

Any idea about printing pages as a lot of subscribers want that facility particularly on older issues not on Pocketmags.

Full screen as it is is a waste of time as it simply removes some items around the edge , far better if it took the mag upto screen size like the pocketmags viewer then you could read it without zooming provided you have  areas on a reasonable size screen.

Search is also poor, I just put "flywheel" into the search box and it did not even find the page on the ME Beam flywheel. Just the cover and index page.

Looks like the search function is as disfunctional as the forum search in that it only looks at major headings and does not search the text.

Page numbering is also suspect, this should in theory be page 206 not 614page numbers.jpg

I print to PDF using the Chrome save to file (PDF) as the option, no margins.

Peter does that work for the current issue with the new viewer?

I see the right page numbers here.

Plus I get many more search hits, I think you have to wait for it to build a temporary index.

If you want to look at text and pictures, <ctrl>-drag the tab to get two windows, use one for text and one for photos side by side. Works well.

I think the majority of 'issues' will be sorted when people getting used to using different reader controls.

I have asked about printing.

On the old reader all it does here is bring up a print dialogue, but it never actually prints... I didn't realise anyone had got it to work.

Yes printing of the archives does not work any more. The flash option used to have a print option when you clicked on a page.

Even though I am pleased to see flash disappear, it would be good to be able to print a page or 2 as required. One stept forward, 2 steps back by removing a feature.

For current issues I usually use the PocketMags Web sitewith Chrome. Reading in the archives here I only usually use for archives, or when PocketMags has subscription problems.
