Hi all. I'm new to lathe work an have owned a Chester 1236 for about six months with no problems. I have been practicing thread cutting today with good success. However the lead screw has stopped rotating with no apparent reason. I have checked everything is engaged but has no affect. Any pointers or ideas what could be wrong would be much appreciated.

I also can't fine any info on my lathe It has Chester 1236 gap bed lathe on the front and the only document i have, is an inspection record which has C06 Serial Family Bench Lathe. Model C06230c. MFG no 020968. Date 2002.5.

It look like an earlier model of the Chester Crusader but i can't find any reference to it anywhere.

Thanks in advance of any help. Arthur

Hello Arthur,

Have a look at the following thread link.

I had a similar problem and this advice was spot on.

Hi,

The usual culprit for this would be the Shear pin.

Let me know if I can help any further, just PM me.

All the best,

Tony

Hi.Thankyou for the info. Spot on it is the sheer pin. Off to get some brass rod now.

Look in the lathe's tool box, they usually put a couple of shear pins in there, along with a pin punch to knock the old one out. Well that's what happens this side of the rock.

Also, do check that the pin isn't tapered.
