Hello, I would like to take a moment to introduce you to my first attempt at building my first I/C Petrol Engine. After building several stationary steam engines from castings (Stuart 10V and Victoria Single) and from bar stock I decided to take the plunge with Hamilton Upshur’s Farm Engine build which he drew up in 1977. Tinker John (YouTube) also built this particular engine. I bought in the camshaft/crankshaft 2:1 ratio gears, the spark plug and used electronic ignition instead of contact breaker points. I have thoroughly enjoyed this build and the challenges that went with it. To say that I was chuffed when it burst into life for the first time is an understatement… https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=RyIQ-ncQF7o My next build will be the horizontal version of the same engine with a unique difference. I intend running this version on propane gas. I have sourced the diaphragm and plans for the demand valve from a company in the USA and will start the build shortly. I chose this engine after researching Hamilton Upshur who I found an interesting chap and I did not want a messy 2 Stroke. I have taken lots and lots of photos of the build so if there’s anyone interested in undertaking this as a project and needs advice… just send me an email tom@clangullan.plus.com Edited By Tom Gullan on 31/03/2018 19:09:22 Edited By JasonB on 31/03/2018 19:46:48 |
