Feel a bit silly asking this, but how does one access files/ post messages on Yahoo groups, please?

The group I'm interested in is the Dore- Westbury Mill. I have been a member for about a week and am able to read threads on the 'Conversations' tab but the 'Help' instructions for posting are invalid (No 'New Topic' function available) and the 'Files' tab remains covered by a 'Do not enter' sign. Undoubtedly the problem lies with me but any pointers from those familiar with Yahoo, please?

Hi Bill,
You first need to be signed into your Yahoo account. On the forum click on conversations. (Near the top left of the page.) Then that will bring up a purple button marked "New Topic" towards the top right. Click on this.

Thank you Les.

I Think that I have done the preliminaries (signed in, etc,) but the 'Purple Button' escapes me!! The following is how the page appears with evidence of my sign-in circled. Any thoughts as to what I am missing, please?

Bill,

I can only assume that you are still not 'approved' by that group's admin.

'Photos' and 'Files' should both be appearing in black text, but yours are grey.

It can take a long time to be "approved" on some of the Yahoo Groups, especially if the moderator is doing his Christmas shopping!

Myford and Boxford are quick ( JS was a moderator on Myford), but I joined one of the minor groups last weekend and am still awaiting approval. (I am a member of several Groups but that doesn't make it any quicker)

As far as I remember you will get an email to tell you that you are approved and have full access.

Thank you, Michael and Robbo. That makes sense. Just have to bite my fingernails for a bit - or do something else useful, for a change.crook

Have found today (by trial but without error) that I have been accepted on the Yahoo Group I joined last weekend, and now have full access, but didn't get an email to tell me so.

Looks like you'll have to just keep trying the site.

Apart from registering problems, which is clearly particular to the forum, I can (no longer) access f7les on yahoo fora, it seems. I can list files and the individual jpg/pdf but that is as far as it progresses. Anyone else have this problem?

Don't get too excited, once you get there, the layout of the forums is not exactly user friendly surprise

Hi Bill

Although you can now access the group pages any post you make may have to be moderated before publishing until the moderators are satisfied you are cosha, depends on how the site is set up.

The owner has probably gone somewhere tropical for the Christmas/new year time, thats what happens here, everything closes down until the middle of next week.

Thanks Ian - in fact I eventually got a reply from the group owner to say that he could find no record of my membership!!

I am still able to log-in and received a confirmation code to confirm log-in but STILL unable to access any functions, other than to see the latest entries on the Conversations. All very odd and undoubtedly down to my ineptitude but nothing I do has any helpful effect.

Suggestions from any member of the D-W group as to how access is accomplished would be very much appreciated but, for the moment, I shall give upsad

Can you join any other yahoo group?

The Drummond group, as an example, is easy going and postings are allowed almost instantly on registering. The Centec forum is really poor in that respect, sometimes taking days for posts to appear.

Finding you could access, or not, another forum might indicate whether it was yahoo, in general, that is causing the problem or the particular DW group level.

Remember car defects are never common and yours is always the only one with that particular fault ever to occur! So may be the typical bull excrement reply from a head in the sand oppo, or an honest response. Your evidence suggests the former, I am afraid!

NDIY - I see your point but not sure that that might not confuse even further.

I get to the D-W group via a Google search query 'cos I have yet to find the group listed in the Yahoo registered group list. Have tried all the (to me) obvious areas - hobby, craft, etc., etc. but no joy yet. My simple mind tells me that if I can read the various comments made in the 'conversation' area, I MUST have logged in but that is the limit of my access.

I shall go and watch a recorded episode of 'Only Connect' - much easier!!wink

If you message me with details of what you hope to find in the DW Group files I'll have a look and see if its there.
