Featured in MEW 258 and following issues, this ingenious attachment allows both ordinary spur gears and helical gears to be made on a Myford lathe.

I have a spare ML7 kicking around the shed that I have been wondering what I will do with it when I get it finished up. Hard to justify keeping it as a lathe when I have the Mighty Drummond already. But a dedicated gear hobbbing machine, well I could always use one of them. Hmmm.... |

That's interesting. Look forward to seeing the articles. I have a spare ML7 kicking around the shed that I have been wondering what I will do with it when I get it finished up. Hard to justify keeping it as a lathe when I have the Mighty Drummond already. But a dedicated gear hobbbing machine, well I could always use one of them. Hmmm.... It isn't a permanent conversion, you can still use it as a lathe! I reckon the principle would work on a mini-lathe if you change the gear ratio by 2:1 for the 16 tpi leadscrew. Neil |
