Just had a call from our insurance company.....

"You had an accident in 2015, the other party is claiming for whiplash !!!!"

Yes after 18+ months the other guy has decided he had a stiff neck....

Best of all it was a 2 mph accident, car pulls up to roundabout we stop behind him, road clear he sets off , we set off he slams on for no reason (hadn't even fully crossed the white line) and we just tap his rear bumper...(thought you couldn't get whiplash at less then 30 mph let alone 2)

So to cap it all our insurance now want £1600 extra insurance fee for the last 18 months insurance (because we have now lost our no claims)

I'm now trying to find all the paperwork for the accident he initially wanted £1200 to repair his car, and after I asked for three independent quotes to include a major company he went through his insurance and we settled in cash for £300 for a cracked bumper (£500 excess) and I'm sure we settled in full and final payment.

LOOKS LIKE A NO WIN NO FEE SCAM TO ME !!

SO BE WARNED KEEP ALL RECORDS OF ACCIDENTS FOR AT LEAST THREE YEARS (this is the legal claims limitation.)

A good reason why to to fit a dashboard camera (and use it).

I have enough clips of dummies and idiots on the roads to start my own TV show film

Only fit a dash cam if your prepaired for the footage to be used against you in court the event of an accident or any incident. Works both ways.

I believe this is only if the cam is taken by the police in the event of a serious accident. I have two, one forwards and one to the rear. Useful at the rear for the closing speed of vehicles and evidence of the tailgaters. Of course, if it is you who is a numpty driver.....

Just had a call from our insurance company.....

Yep my daughter had pretty much the same experience. Driving my car she tapped the rear bumper of a lady turning right who had changed her mind and stopped. No damage to either car and no-one hurt.

A year later a firm of solititors sent a form letter reporting the lady had a whiplash injury with a supporting list of symptoms. This turned out to be a word for word copy of the list they have on their website. The claim later was supported by a doctor, hired by the sollcitor, who - guess what - reported a list of symptoms also identical to that on the web site. A rubber-stamp job.

Interestingly my insurance company had no interest in fighting the claim, perhaps because they can recover their costs by inreasing premiums. It could be the increased cashflow resulting from these payouts results in higher profits across the industry. What annoys me most about this scam is the Doctors and Solictors involved. The professional enablers must know full well that they are processing fake claims; it's plain dishonest. It is very easy to pretend to have whiplash and almost impossible to disprove. Money for old rope.

I change my insurance provider every time it come's up for renewal, having read this thread I think it may well be a beneficial thing to do in making this type of scam more difficult to perform.

I change debit cards every 11 months to stop the automatic payments.
Moved house, notified the insurance thar I'd moved and wouldn't need the policy. Then later got a bill for the 3 months it had run over

I was advised never to settle accident claims privately, as it is now a common scam to take the money and claim off your insurance!

and I'm sure we settled in full and final payment.

Surely your insurance company should have signed that off properly???

My advice to anyone taking ANY insurance nowadays is to use a broker, these out-on-yer-own deals are great... as long as you never need to make a claim
