Hi i have just taken my boiler cladding of to fit a new one.

My Black 5 boiler is tapered any suggestions on How to fit it neatly.

Last time the back edge was ok but the front edge i could not get close to the boiler.

I tried using home made clamps like large jubilee clips.

Should i aneal the brass sheet will it be easier to fit tight.

I have seen so many that look so good must be a way of doing it.

Any suggestions greatful as still trying to learn

Ron

I'm not a locomotive builder, but first get some cardboard, and make up the cladding with that until it fit, then use it as a patern. card board is cheap so you can cut and try many times .

NO ! Do not anneal the cladding sheet.

Getting the right thickness cladding for the job is most important.

If you have a good handle on geometry you could try developing the layout of the truncated cone which the boiler barrel is.

Thank you Guys it's just so springy Keatly metals suggested 0.7 so that's what I have.

Just going to take my time I have the old one I took of that was a bit to short looked dreadful.

The boiler had to have an inch and a half extension price added by GB Boilers as it was to short to reach the Smoke Box.

I should have bought a new brass plate then but decided to do it later. Well back in workshop time to get more experience this game so much to learn. Thank goodness for sites like this so you can get info from people who have already made Loco's. us novices would never learn if it was not passed down to us keeping Model Engineering alive.. many thanks Ron
