More seriously .... I would definitely get #12 Drills, Taps & Dies. ***

It's a mine of useful information and is the only book of this type that I've read from cover to cover rather than using it mostly as a reference.

( ***If you read Eats, Shoots & Leaves at the same time, don't get confused.)

4 Foundry work for the amateur.

There is another foundry one, bit can't remember which.

I don't often use my furnace, but the knowledge is a good backstop just in case.. The foundry can be very, very basic. Mine is here **LINK**, and has been fired by pallets to melt a pound of aluminium at a time.

Regards

Richard.

Milling in the lathe. Never mind the lathe bit it's an excellent treatise on milling and milling cutters.

3 ,17, 37,38 and 42 are the ones i found most useful but the entire series is a "must have " as far as I'm concerned .

The data book is pretty useful and i found it was the one i reached for first as it is easy to use and not full of information that you will more than likely never use , i feel machinerys hand book is a bit like that !

Sooner or later you will need to :

Sharpen your cutting tools

Use gears

Cut threads

Or use a dividing device of some sort to either cut gears or make a dial etc .

I have read the lot ,I can't say there is one bad book amongst them and if some bright spark could put them into one big book it would be fantastic !

I purchased Spindles on a whim from Amazon, as it was really cheap (a few pen notes inside), and I confirm it is a good read

26 Home Workshop Tips and HInts makes good Christmas reading. All sorts of old time dodges and ideas for all manner of stuff there.

I wouldn't bother with No 22 unless it has been revised.

My 1994 published copy is hopelessly out of date.
