Hi, does anybody know where I can purchase a manual collet chuck holder for my W25 collets. I want the chuck to fit my Chester DB 11 lathe so I may have to make a new back plate for it to fit. For info, the W 25 collet looks the same as the 5C but are larger. I appreciate any assistance I can get.

Thanks,

Alan.

I have a set of ER25 collets, which only go up to 16mm... I am looking to upsize just once i.e. add a 19mm / 3/4" collet without having to buy a complete collet ER32 set; will it match the tapers of the ER25 set. I know I can check sizes with OEM but for quickness has anyone gone this route ?

George.

Don't see how that would work, George. I have both (ER25 and ER32) but the two sizes are not interchangeable with each other. The tapers match (I believe) but the outside diameters are different.

Now back to the original thread (sorry Alan).

Alan,

I fear you may have to make one

... If so; the dimensions for the Collet Seating are on page 21.1 of this

Had a look at catalogue as per link... it seems that their equivalent ... ESX25... page 221, only goes up to 16mm too before jumping up to a larger dia. Thanks for the link anyway thumbs up.

Hi Jason, thanks for the link. I did get a quotation from them but at 1300 Euro's for the unit and 63 Euro's postage it was way too expensive for me. I have carried out extensive research in Europe, US and China, which included finding another expensive supplier in the States and have decided to give up on my search. When I bought these from a local auction in South Yorkshire I thought I was buying 5C collets. I have since learned my lesson, buy in haste and repent at leisure. The collets are now resigned to the back of a draw!! I ended up buying a new 5C collet from Warco and a bunch of used collets at a competitive price from a local tool supplier.

Thanks to every body for their help and greatly appreciated.

Alan.

They would be better in a For Sale advert [in the column to the right >>>]

... or on homeworkshop, or ebay.

Agree with Michael, if they are in goiod nick a set of W25 wil raise enougth money for you to cover the cost of your 5C Chuck and set of collets.

George the link was meant for Alan.

Alan,

I know of a W25 collet nose adapter and draw tube for sale. The collet nose adapter could easily be mounted to a suitable backplate for your lathe spindle. I have sent you a PM.

Rather than hiding the collets at the back of the drawer, if you have the dimensions for the holder, why not make your own chuck for the collets? We are supposed to be "Articifers in Metals" after all!

Being an ER enthusiast, have made various carriers for ER20, ER25, and ER32 collets. My carriers are soft, but they are unlikely to see so much use that wear will be a problem. For one specific purpose, even made three ER32 lookalike collets, but not as an addictive activity.

Chickened out on the nuts, and bought them!

And NO, you can't put ,say, an ER32 onto an ER25 holder, (or the other way round). For a start, the Clamp Nut won't accept the collet (understandably).

Just a suggestion

Howard
