UK Floods

Pictures of the Floods in the North of England are alarming. It must be devastating for those affected - they have my deepest sympathy.

Mytholmroyd seems to be badly hit. I've not been there but Google maps seems to suggest that RDG/Myford are in a precarious position. I hope all is well.

It's difficult to imagine just what those poor folk are going through. Thankfully we live in a small village at the top of a hill. If we were to get flooded the rest of the country would be treading water! ( Just to even things up a bit we were snowed in for a couple of weeks two or three years ago.)

From the town centre is quite a hill to climb before getting to the trading area where RDG are so my guess is they are clear of flood water.

Worth bearing in mind that the flooding itself is only the start of the problems.

We still haven't moved back in OVER 2 YEARS after the house was trashed in the 2013 'surge'. The problems start with the insurers and their loss adjusters and continue with architects and builders and the sheer mind-boggling variety of decisions to be made during the build. There is a possibility of completion in a couple of months and it will be a much different house (and workshop!!) but it is not a process I would recommend to anyone!

The disaster what ever it may be is only the beginning, In Christchurch (NZ) people are still fighting the insurance companies, even the City Council has only just got paid out, only a fraction of the amount required. The main aim of insurance companies is to pay out as little as possible, they aren't there to help, they are there to make a profit.

Seems it's time for disasters, fires in Australia, floods in Britain, Tornados in USA, thinking of all of you.

Hi my home is insured with the NFU, found them very very good, they kicked into gear immediately .had £40K damage due to a mini tornado a few years back, main problem was the roofers and the subsequent wet weather which caused delays. plus I live at a 600 ft above sea level and the roofers claimed they had never seen rain blow through temporary sheeting and tarpaulins like it before.

The real problems with insurance comes when there are hundreds / thousands of claims, most have no problem.
