As sort of add on to the simple boiler thread. Another area that there is not all that much information on.

I've seen some propane / butane burners based round this sort of item

Going on flame colour the efficiency wasn't very good. Anyone had any success or other ideas? Something beyond the capabilities of meths and wicks.

blushI'd wonder about moulding something like the link in fire cement. It would be a pain to make the mould but ..........

Proivided the jets and air mixing are right they work very well

There is a good boiler build that starts page 5 of this thread and the burner crops up about page 11 or 12, that uses the ceramic burner material

The burner area can be made from perforated steel, or stainless and give quite good results, look at any camp stove.

interesting thread. Not clear if the burner was ever really sorted out. I found a comment on the web that suggested that the ceramic can burn out. There are ceramics about that will take higher temperatures but none I am aware of in this form.

I found a couple of bits of information

A cavalier view of the setting up of a burner but its short clear and to the point.

I suspect I would try fitting the end of the burner on the torch as supplied directly into a burner tube as at some gas setting it should provide the right mix.

And one design. I would double drill the hole to try and get the final size correct, just removing a touch with the 2nd one maybe by hand.

For a vertical boiler, a direct transplant of a camp stove burner, jet , valve, Bunsen tube is all you need, for a horizontal boiler, a rectangular burner is the only part that needs to be changed.

This is a little burner I made recently.

The jet was drilled with a .3mm drill but it could do with being a bit smaller. This is one approach I might try.

I'v got one burner, the jet of which was made by drilling it 1 mm, and a needle used as a valve in the hole makes it variable. On another web site the jet was made by piercing a bit of shim brass with a needle.
