Estimated selling price of a Myford VMB mill?

Could I request an estimate of a typical selling price for a Myford VMB Varispeed mill? I think it is the Mk2 with more height than the Mk1, but I have yet to know that detail. The machine is in almost unused condition, with the blue Myford stand. It's like the 2nd picture in **LINK** though I haven't yet checked if it has the coolant pump.

It is part of the estate of an old friend and proceeds will go to charity.

All help will be much appreciated.

Perhaps I should add that I've been asked to dispose of such a mill as part of the estate of a longstanding model engineer friend of mine who has just passed away. Proceeds will be going to Alzheimer's charity.

It all comes down to condition. I have had a VMB for many years and it is a good machine, and being the varispeed type you are selling it is worth a decent sum. In good condition you could be looking at close to a grand I would have thought.

I would have thought it to be a very desirable machine if it's in good condition so as said, a grand may not be an unreasonable sum to the right person. Pictures would help with an estimate though.

Thanks for your help Douglas and Vic. I should have added some photos. Here are some links. When I took the photos I found that I could make the mill work fine but that I couldn't make the powered X axis drive do its job.

It's worth what someone will pay. You need to get it in front of as many people as possible and see what they bid, so eBay is your friend. There was one recently that went for over a grand IIRC, and that was one the seller had taken the motor off for some unaccountable reason.

A friend of mine was buying a gun recently but the seller wanted to keep the front sight. Which was of absolutely no use to anyone except the owner of that particular make and model of gun, sans front sight.

go figure!

Jonny, When you say the power feed wont work , what do you mean precisely ? Do you mean the motor runs , but doesn't drive or that the motor doesn't drive at all please? I have exactly the same machine which I bought new from Myfords in Nottingham . I later bought the power feed from Chronos because it was much cheaper than ostensibly the Myford unit , but found it wouldn't fit in any way . Chronos accepted return with no problem . I then returned to Myford and bought theirs , only to find that it in 2 aspects it wouldn't fit either , but was easily made to do so . Also, the information supplied by Myfords , ( on a piece of scrap paper ) for the electrical connection within the control cabinet was wrong , again easily corrected using new DIN rail mounted fittings and revising the control wiring. Hope this helps . Regarding the removal of the motor from a second hand machine , I can understand why because mine is a Brook motor , and even when its driven large cutters over protracted periods , its never got really warm at all , which is in stark contrast to some alternatives that I've seen.

list it on eBay when you get free listing, start the bidding at the price you want for it, it may sell or it may not or you may get more than you want, if i was selling it i would start at a thousand pounds, list it for 10 days. if it is not sold i would re-list it buy now for a thousand pounds for a month. if its not sold by then you know its worth less.

Jonny Duke, I've sent you a private message.

This machine ticks a lot of boxes for me, I've offered you the £1000 which seems to be the general consensus. I was looking to spend a bit less than that but it is a good cause that's close to my heart.

It all depends where in the country you are, check your private messages and get back in touch if you are interested, I've left you my phone number and email address.

Many thanks,

Russ

that's a fair offer if the distance is no problem

Thanks again to further contributors for their help. Re the X axis drive: it is a Myford-fitted one and it certainly used to work well in the days when my friend was active. I have just looked again at the photo I took, and I have realised that there is a rotatable knob at the axis of the to-and-fro lever for the X axis. I had not tried turning this, and it seems to be set at zero, which might explain the lack of motion! The machine is 40 miles from me so I will have to make an arrangement to get this tested.
