I should add: I just send them DXF or DWG files. Don't even try using a Chinese diy cutter.

I use these people to cut stainless sheet to complex shapes and they do a good job for a competitive price. Yorkshire Profiles, Unit 6A Hessay Industrial Estate Hessay, York North Yorkshire, YO26 8LE Tel. 01904 737095 Fax. 01904 737096 I hope that helps, Jon |
Thread: Manual for a Myford MG12 cylindrical grinder? |
04/06/2018 22:37:44 |
Thanks for your thoughts Nigel. I did find them but they charge £55 for a manual, which I think is rather a lot. |

Hello, I've just bought a Myford cylindrical grinder, model MG12. It's in basically good condition but as with most second hand purchases, it could do with some fettling and TLC. I would very much like to get sight of a manual for it. I'm not familiar with the styles of documentation that Myford produced but an operators manual and a parts diagram would be my ideal. If someone could loan me one, I'd be happy to scan it and return it promptly. I have found copies for between £55 and £100 on the internet but am not keen on spending that much. I would be happy to put any scanned results in the public domain for others to benefit from. I'm also wondering if anyone has added ER collet functionality to one and I'd be interested to hear from them. Thanks for any help and kind regards, Jon |
Thread: A mystery tool |
19/05/2015 18:55:37 |
Thanks very much everyone for your helpful replies. I now know what the tool is for! I suppose I should have considered woodworking. I was maybe thrown off that trail because my friend only rarely engaged in woodworking. The stem on this tool is in stainless. Thinking of woodworking marking out gauges, my father had a rather nice conventional pin-type gauge in which the pin was fashioned as a small blade so that it cut the wood. This gave better marking out results than the common or garden pointed type of gauge. I think it was made by Chesterman. Kind regards to all, Jon |

The photos show a tool that belonged to a good friend who has passed away. I wonder if anyone can tell me anything about its purpose? To me it looks like it might be for scribing marks at a set depth inside a cylindrical hole. The end with the screwed on insert is fairly sharp. It seems to be intended that the length between the sharp end and the "base" can be adjusted finely, as the screw barrel is differentially threaded. I can see that it could be useful in marking out where ports are to be cut in 2 stroke engine cylinder barrels. Perhaps the steam engineers have a similar use. I wonder if it was home made, or perhaps bought (it came in a nice mahogany box that is lined with snooker table cloth). All help will be much appreciated, Jon

Thread: Estimated selling price of a Myford VMB mill? |
27/04/2015 11:28:00 |
Thanks again to further contributors for their help. Re the X axis drive: it is a Myford-fitted one and it certainly used to work well in the days when my friend was active. I have just looked again at the photo I took, and I have realised that there is a rotatable knob at the axis of the to-and-fro lever for the X axis. I had not tried turning this, and it seems to be set at zero, which might explain the lack of motion! The machine is 40 miles from me so I will have to make an arrangement to get this tested. |

Thanks for your help Douglas and Vic. I should have added some photos. Here are some links. When I took the photos I found that I could make the mill work fine but that I couldn't make the powered X axis drive do its job. |

Perhaps I should add that I've been asked to dispose of such a mill as part of the estate of a longstanding model engineer friend of mine who has just passed away. Proceeds will be going to Alzheimer's charity. Jon |

Could I request an estimate of a typical selling price for a Myford VMB Varispeed mill? I think it is the Mk2 with more height than the Mk1, but I have yet to know that detail. The machine is in almost unused condition, with the blue Myford stand. It's like the 2nd picture in **LINK** though I haven't yet checked if it has the coolant pump. It is part of the estate of an old friend and proceeds will go to charity. All help will be much appreciated. Jon |
