I recently sent an email about a linisher in the classifieds asking if it was still for sale by email. I pressed send email and the window popped up, I typed my message, pressed send message and "message sent" popped up so I clicked ok and the window closed. I thought it had all been succesful.

Its been a few days now with no reply and I checked the "sent mail" of my gmail and the message wasn't in there.

Is the classified section known to eat emails? Don't want to spam some poor person with linisher questions but I am starting to suspect they never got it.

I have sent emails to several sellers about items too, and they appear to have disappeared into a distant blackhole. If people post adverts, you would think they would have the good manners to reply to inquiries.

I too am not convinced the mail system is working. It has in the past, but there is no indication that the mail has been sent.

Hi all I too had a problem and sent a message to Neil, pasted below with Neil's reply. I'm still not convinced the mail went to the advertiser, I contacted him by tex to his email, no reply when I called hence the text. By the time I made contact the item was sold.

Hello John

The emails aren't sent via your email provider, they are sent by our system.

This means they don't show up in your outbox and they do just 'disappear' without leaving a trace, there is no way you can tell if it has failed to send or not.

They usually do reach the recipient (although a surprising number oif sellers get their own email addresses wrong!)

So your contact probably did get a couple of emails from you.

Hi Neil, I was trying to contact an advertiser by clicking the email link on the classified advert for some Dickson tool holders.

After typing the message I clicked send and a pop up came on saying message sent but it was clear that it had not transmitted. On accepting OK in the pop up the message vanished, I checked my sent box and nothing there.

Item now sold unfortunately for me but I did make contact with the seller by text.

If you have any doubts about the system then click on the "send e-mail" link and when the new window comes up simply copy and paste the displayed e-mail address into your own prefered system.

I did that yesterday to one person a sI wanted to send an attachment as well. went no problem and I got a reply.

If you want to be sure they go, just put a semi colon followed by your own email address in the 'to' field and you will be sent a copy.

Of do as Jason suggests, the only advantage with using the system is sellers know where it has been sent from.
