@Jason,

Very nice oiler. How long did it take to make it?

Mark - as a bit of ‘an old duffer’ myself, I second that! I recently made some replacement carburettor linkage pieces for a McCorrick tractor. After working how I could manufacture the butterfly valve linkage and fabricated the said item only to find I’d made a mirror image of what was required! 😱 😳🤣

It would take me 3-4 days on my ML7 with vertical slide

Still much to learn...

With the replacement governor latch made and a few tweaks to the ignitor it runs as well painted as it did in bare metal. It does sound a bit wheezy with quite a lot of induction noise probably due to it being happiest with the choke plate covering about 2/3rds of the carb inlet. Colour also looks better in the video.

Did a bit more on the Vertical Cross engine, assembled the swing arm assemblies. got a tight spot somewhere as when the crank is at BDC there is a definite binding, suspect some other measurements are out, possibly the swing arm assemblies...

An engine of this type is on my bucket list. I used to have an old ME with a picture of a small colliery winding engine in this style, but I just can't find it.

Yup the tight spot is on the swing arm assembly! ... looks like pin misalignment & difference in length face 19 ... when added rotational pressure is applied ( finger pressure on the shaft, the soft soldered joints break ) ... so much for 5 piece soldered swing arms... so it's a rehash with a new pair of swing arms... face 14 this time I'll utilise Jim Nic's method, or similar, ah well! you get a run of those days every so often...

Made a new "drill stand" today.

20180324_135950.jpg

It has spiral flute tap, spiral point tap, tapping drill, counter bore, clearance drill, sized drill, pre-ream and reamer.

Covers M3 to M12. Saves wasting time hunting through tins and makes it more likely that I will actually use the right tool!

Once again, I take a picture "portrait" on my phone and it ends up on its side. I don't know........

Use your pc's / laptop photo editing app W10 has free one built in, or use paint... copy image, load into Paint, rotate, 'save as' in preferred folder...

Its something I do on my machines that are not being used. I've only got a small shed and two lathes, a mill, bench top drill, bandsaw, bench, grinders etc so space is tight. I split my head open on a machine handle, bending over and standing up a bit quick!!

The difference between banging a tennis ball and a machine handle, is quite something!!

I haven't made a lot of progress on the Hasbrouk Rocking Valve Engine of late. For one thing other priorities have got in the way and for another I haven't really taken to this project like I have with all my previous engines. However I like to finish what I've started so on we go. Here are a couple of "family shots" of the cylinder and crosshead and the crankshaft in its bearing pedestals.

Hasbrouk family shot 1.jpg

Hasbrouk family shot 3.jpg

I am making the engine smaller than the original drawing so the next step is the connecting rod and then I can confirm my dimensions and get the cylinder and crankshaft mounted on the baseplate.
