You gotta be online to read? Why???

![]() 21 forum posts 15 photos | This apparent "fear" of articles being downloaded and then uploaded where they can be "distrubuted" and downloaded by "non-subscribers" is ludicrous......Its almost as easy to scan a printed issue and share that on the web. (note the number of scanned books on torrent sites). Don't even need a scanner! Scantopdf on my android phone works perfectly as a scanner. Come on "model-engineer" - we don't all live in good broadband areas - I can run faster than my broadband connection here in the sticks! ps Excellent point coalburner - about the end of subscription. |

![]() 21 forum posts 15 photos | DC Sorry to say, "what an arrogant attitude"......Can't believe a forum "moderator" who normall would be expected to calm the waters would say it in the way you have. I say....Blow the back issues, just let me download the year I have paid for. If I want any back issues, I wiill buy the ones I want. The T&C should make it clear that when you buy a subscription you are in fact "renting" them. It should be made very clear - and it isn't.....it certainly does not say "You pay for access to read 13 issues of MEW".......unless I missed something.

![]() 3357 forum posts 112 photos 10 articles | Hi There Not an arrogant attitude, I am just fed up of this thread repeating itself by one or two people who keep moaning about something that is not going to change. Complain to the management of MyTimeMedia Ltd. if you want to get it changed, don't waste your time complaining on here. If you want to keep the magazine permanently, subscribe to the paper copy. It will cost about £15 more than a digital issue if you are a UK subscriber. That is only just over a £1 per issue delivered to your door. regards David |

![]() 30 forum posts | £4 each x 212 copies = £848. (199 copies + another 13 issues.) If I get enough interest from forum members, I will see if management will allow PDFs to go on sale for £848. Who is going to be first to place an order? regards David That’s most pathetic answer I have ever seen on a post, while I agree the fee is for access the archive is not a bonus it’s clearly marketed as part of the deal on the subscription page. |

![]() 2747 forum posts 123 photos | Pardon my ignorance, but isn't a moderator meant to be neutral? In my opinion if a moderator gets 'fed up' they are not the right person to be doing the job. There is a responsibility encumbent on a moderator to be fair and unbiased and in my opinion if a moderator gets 'fed up' they should step aside. One thing a modereator should not do is stick an oar in and make the subject even more inflamed! Ian

Hi There You pay for access to read 13 issues of MEW. As a bonus you get access to another 200 or so Model Engineers' Workshop magazines. How much should we charge if you get to keep them? £4 each x 212 copies = £848. (199 copies + another 13 issues.) If I get enough interest from forum members, I will see if management will allow PDFs to go on sale for £848. Who is going to be first to place an order? regards David

![]() 3357 forum posts 112 photos 10 articles | Hi Ian I will not be moderating after 31 January. I am stepping aside. I will still have moderator access as I need that to do my MEW editing but after 31 January, someone else can do it. I am neutral, just fed up of people not listening when I say it is a waste of time posting certain things on here. I have better things to do then keep saying the same old things over and over. regards David

![]() 3357 forum posts 112 photos 10 articles | Hi John No monies will be taken until the full 213 issues are available in PDF form. It will take a year at least to make the PDF's. I did one to a standard I was happy with, actually issue no 1, and it took me ten hours to do it. So, at four a week it will take someone a full year or more to do them. regards David Edited By David Clark 1 on 29/01/2013 21:23:18 |

Wow! Moderator!
mod·er·a·tor (m
n.
1. One that moderates, as:
a. One that arbitrates or mediates.
b. One who presides over a meeting, forum, or debate.
" I am just fed up of this thread repeating itself by one or two people"
No, there are more than one or two and so I think that borders on a "throwing toys out of a pram attitude , I wish you well, but hope that the new moderator has a more constructive attitude. A Moderator with this type of attitude is, (in my bery very humble opinion), not a great loss.

Maybe my idea was not altogether bad, or else there would not be reason for censorship. Greetings, Hansrudolf (wonder what happens with this one ...) |

33 forum posts 15 photos | David, You are still missing the point. This is not a debate about the "value" of the current deal (we'd do well to remind ourselves of the difference in "value" and "cost" anyway) but my original point still stands. I pay £40.50 for an annual subscription to Railway Modeller and get access to all the back-issues they've got around to digitising. I CAN read them all, online or offline, wherever I am in the world. I pay £55 for an annual subscription to Model Engineerand and get access to all the back-issues they've got around to digitising. I CAN'T even read the current issue unless I have internet access, let alone the back-issues. Why? It is not about copying, or distributing, or what a good deal we get already, it's about having access to what's been paid for, wherever I want it. Joel |

Hi Biggles AS I have said before, talk to the management, not this forum. regards David Part of the function of a forum, as I understand it, is to share thoughts, in this case many people are not happy, hopefully this is one way the management will see people are not happy. Can you point out to the management this issue as afterall I hope you have direct contact with the relevant person. Baldric |

Forum posts would seem to be the perfect place to show management strength of feeling. I would hope management would have a look at posts occasionally
Historically "discussion forum" used to be the common name for "forums" on the internet . Seems to be a lot of people getting slapped hands. It reminds me of the atmosphere of so many "model engineering clubs".........God help anybody who dare wants to move into the 21st century! Excellent post Jim, though I notice it has already been pulled and Versaboss! |

David C | 30/01/2013 12:31:04 |
![]() 21 forum posts 15 photos | But access only available when you have an internet connection - So you do NOT have access to a digital issue when no connection. If I have a downloaded magazine, it is still a "digital issue" the "archive" may be stated as being online but NOT the subscribed dozen (though I am perfectly happy to admit I am wrong if someone finds something I have missed in the T&C) Dave, with respect, I didn't subscribe to a US magazine, I don't even want to print pages, I want to read it "offline" in digital format.
All these Dave's and Davids are getting confusing!

141 forum posts 1 photos | Why are you haranguing a bloke whom you know is leaving his job at the end of this week? Why not find an old-fashioned friend (his name might be Ned or Ludd) who can lend you a pen so that you can write a letter of complaint to the management, publishers or owners or whoever? You could enclose a stamped addressed envelope for their reply. Cue for rants about snail mail, cost of postage (ten shillings a stamp) and huge profits made by magazine publishers? |
