Surveys are generally handled by a different company, so probably legit, but of course you are not obliged to fill them in, so I never do.

Presumably give them a landline number - at least you'll be at home when they arrive

But what about those without a landline??

Yeah.

I can see that if you live way out in the sticks, they might need a phone number to get directions for the final mile. I live in a well-populated area so the address is sufficient and I never give any kind of (valid) phone number even if requested.

I'm just still amazed about a local company which wouldn't let me order online without me giving them a mobile number (to which they texted a verification code which had to be plugged into the order). Presumably they think they are indispensable. (They're not).

Just received a text from Parcelforce @ 09:37 saying they missed us earlier and to book a redelivery via a link.

The link 'looks' valid but I went straight on to the Parcelforce website and entered the 'tracking number' manually and guess what? It's not a valid number.

I entered the mobile number 077750 99726 into a valid mobile search (there are a number of sites that come up as not tested by Norton) and it is located in Indonesia.

If you're a person expecting a delivery you could be easily taken in by this one.

You're right, If the scammers are lucky and get the timing right it can make it look very authentic, I renewed my TV licence on line a few weeks ago, about 3 days after renewing I got an email saying that my bank had refused payment for the licence renewal and could I please click the link they kindly sent me, I did click but is was the delete key.

It may well be someone accessing a list of recent payers as opposed to luck.

I entered the mobile number 077750 99726 into a valid mobile search (there are a number of sites that come up as not tested by Norton) and it is located in Indonesia.

It comes up as Vodaphone UK north of Blackburn, though 99% sure its a spoofed number rom India.

There really is an easy way out except email scams.

If you register your number with the TPS, some years ago laws changed so that any UK company that then calls without your express wishes is doing so illegally. What that means is if someone is attempting to portray a UK number or is actually a UK person or company that calls you, you know straigh away they have something to hide. Simple.

Hope that works a hell of a lot better than it does in Canada.

.... or works at all
