Best program on tv

1723 forum posts | Blue Peter how to's for grown ups. As an Ingineer, the mechanical items are interesting and the skills of the experts excellent BUT, for your average great unwashed, being shown every "How To" detail would lead to the destruction of many "would be" valuable items. In the distant past, DIY was a necessity and at a time when Hammer chewers made as good a job as SOME of the professionals, just look how DIY became a "Hobby" and how many professionals had to be called in to rectify abortions. Gas,Electricary, water, Building Etc. Kenny Everett got it right. Wonder why the big "Home Improvement" centres are reducing in size. I do use the word "Professionals" advisedly, Billy the Kid is still alive and well. Regards Ian. Edited By Circlip on 01/10/2020 12:55:01 |

I think the leather glue is to hold it whilst the edges are sewn. Just a theory, maybe its better than the manufacturer suggests, just numpties keep complaining when they mess up. |

Yes, agree with all the above, but why does Susie (Leather worker ?) use this glue ? HOWSTICK 125. The manufacturers say it is for temporary holding of leather ?? Edited By Speedy Builder5 on 01/10/2020 06:46:10d I suppose it is the difference between a professional craftsperson an an amateur like myself. I look at the manufacturer's spec and use what they recommend, while a professional uses what they know from experience will do what they want it to do. |

133 forum posts 6 photos | Jim Young 2. The use of staples on antique items is a real ‘no no’, if it is tacked when stripped then tacks it is when it goes back! As a upholsterer of over 50yrs I have to disagree with your statement. I understand its not original but had staple guns been around then they would most certainly been used. The do far less damage to the wood being fine wire and give a double fixing instead of one. Unless specified its common practice to use staples to fix the cover and use tacks to fix the Hessian on the bottom .That way it still gives the appearance of being tacked while not doing any damage to the frame. There would be far more antiques chairs around using staples instead of tacks. Bob |

550 forum posts 77 photos | I find it very enjoyable, probably the best program on tv imo. Though it is the only one I watch. 🤣
I would like to see a bit more technical detail though, even if it was just naming the products being used. Obviously not brand names but chemicals etc. |

Nothing to do with model engineering but if you want to extend your viewing I have just seen the last of the BBC documentaries on Dr Harold Shipman. Disturbing, but a superb set of documentaries. |

Edited By Speedy Builder5 on 01/10/2020 06:46:10 It's probably about not giving all your secrets away, some of what you see on Salvage Hunters the Restorers is not the proper way of doing it either. |
