I saw this ad Fizzy. Gobsmacking. One of my other hobbies is r/c flight, heli's and fixed wing. It's amazing how much people want to for stuff.

Neil,

I get what you say but still a GREAT extra earner for EB all the same.....

We always use recycled packaging as much as possible, all our neighbours and friends save stuff for us but we still spend approx £1500 pa on new packaging etc.

We have very good postage ratings for our stuff which is nice.

I have to say I have got some good deals on eBay. £1040 for an ML7R with a Rodney milling attachment both in A1 condition, £27 pounds for a Rapidor Manchester saw in A1 condition, £170 for a Meddings MF4 drill and 170 for a Dormer 108 drill grinding machine. I collected all these items so some diesel/ petrol was also a manageable expense. I have also bought numerous small tools for very reasonable prices. I have seen the Rodney go for more than I paid for a lathe and Rodney, I suppose people pay what they think something is worth but if you don’t study the market before you jump in then more fool you.

I've just seen a used PP Thornton escape wheel cutter sell for £71 inc. postage.

The Thornton list price is £58 + VAT. Which route would you rather take?

It probably doesn’t really matter to anyone except fizzy [who should be either peeved or honoured ... I’m not sure which]

Gobsmacked is what I am. No one is having a problem with the sale, it just bewilders me why anyone would pay so much for a second hand boiler when a very simple google would allow you to see that it only cost £599 new. Its a strange world! Im in the middle of building ten of these, if I put my price up in line with ebay I would either be a lot better off or stuck with ten boilers no one wanted to buy. Think I will leave them as they are (theyre all sold...but the next lot ofr ten arent).

Do remember that if it went for 750, after epay’s and paypal’s charges, the vendor would only see 650.

If it went for 995, the vendor would net 860. A difference of 210 quid on that money is considerable.

I've never sold anything on eBay but from what I see the charges at traditional auctions are not much differerent, watching Paul Martins 'Flog it' programme he always warns about the standard charges which seem to vary from about 15% to 18% plus 20% VAT.

I always wait until Ebay are offering a "Max £1 selling fees" promotion before listing anything that is going to sell for more than £50. I do OK on Ebay, I've bought a job lot of test equipment items for 99p buy it know (collection only) and sold 1 item from it back on Ebay for £1500. Seller also let me pick his skip, an item from there went to a dealer for £750, the listed on their site for 4 times that . The seller was closing down and had bee quoted a few hundred pounds for clearing his "hazardous" waste electrical equipment so was glad to get rid. I did OK , I've no problem with the dealer making a profit, he had to calibrate the item and provide a warranty and has premises and employees to pay for.

What annoys me is the people selling dangerous new goods or items that they know are not working properly. That works both ways, computer sellers in particular have trouble with buyers who have an identical faulty item, buy a working one, swap the faulty part and claim the one they bought was faulty.

I'm happy to pay Ebay and PayPal commission, I get a worldwide marketplace.

Been a good income for 15 years.
