148 forum posts 4 photos | XD 351 To add to my troubles I am also a target shooter like your good self. The lathe is used mainly for shooting related stuff. I use it to make bushing sizing and seating dies gauges and other bits and bobs. Yes I have discussed the problem with Simon at SPG. I have posted the board to him. The guy who is looking for a K.B. board for his mini lathe can buy one fromAxiscontrols based in Southport. As I am not a member I could post this and the guy seems desperate, hope this helps and he does not give up the hobby. Rob Hope that helps, Neil |

5307 forum posts 83 photos | We keep on getting plaintive requests from people who have had their motor control boards expire. They are no doubt made down to a price. It can't be all that difficult, if a bit more expensive, to design a bit of electronicery which would survive operating into a dead short (foldback current limiting?), so one of you experts (not me, above of my pay scale) come on and put a design in ME |

![]() 5068 forum posts 3 photos | Been done Duncan. The Seig fit the brushless motor and driver board to some of their machines. Few years ago I had the first ones to test. Told they were bomb proof so I thought the best way to test an over load was clamp the spindle to the column with two big steel straps and clamps and switch on. Wasn't my mill was it ?
Bang.
Sorry.
Could you try again ? Eventually they came up with a board that works. Overloads it just switches off and 10 seconds later after you have removed all loose fingers and bits of cutter and steam chest it will restart.
Brilliant except when this was pointed out the short armed, long pocketed Muddle Engineers all screamed too expensive and we now know how to repair the cheap boards.
Can't win can you ? Some days it makes you wonder why you bother as well. |

148 forum posts 4 photos | A update. I decided the sensible thing to do would be to ring Steve at SPG as suggested. I spoke to him on the phone he suggested I send the board to him. So I posted it off. He emailed me and informed me that the board was goosed. He posted me a replacement board at what I believe is a very reasonable price. I just need to fit it and reassemble the lathe and hopefully I will be good to go. Thanks for all your replies. |

148 forum posts 4 photos | Its been a while since I posted about my board problem. I bought a new board and fitted it. Over the last several weeks the lathe has been dismantled more times than I have hot dinners. We have had the motor running off the lathe but every time I put it back together it runs for less than a minute then blows all the fuses. I have given up on it its going in the scrap skip. I am done with Chinese crap. |

1395 forum posts 30 photos | looks very like my Warco WM180 though with a different style cross + top slide My WM180 is belt driven from the motor - this belt should slip if the chuck jams etc rather than stalling the motor - is something else jamming the motor after it has warmed up a little? |

![]() 6137 forum posts 893 photos | That's what I like about just having the motor, a few pullies and backgear I've had the 5Amp fuse pop a few times over the years but since a hundred fuses from a well know site costs about a tenner who cares Maybe a decent breaker switch would be a better option, they can do pretty amazingly sensitive stuff nowadays Edited By Ady1 on 31/10/2016 01:28:41 |
