Thread: Boring bar ?
23/01/2015 18:17:01

Hi Gordon
If you clamp it on the x slide you need to be able to clock the O/D true ie raise or lower it into the correct position to bore it  true

Thread: Lathe Tools
29/12/2014 21:55:00

Hi Philip
Welcome to the forum . As Bazyle says 2 or 3 HSS tool bits. I use 3/8" square on my Myford Super 7 MK one
you may need a drill chuck for the tailstock for drilling. You can get a off hand grinder for shaping the tools
for turning , grooving ect

Hi David
Thats what I thought . I also use a tailstock die holder and cut 8 Ba in steel . I did wonder as well as you if using the back toolpost to support to the bush Then rotate the topslide round square with the X slide so the X slide does not move when you put a cut on to final size for 8BA

Hi David
I suppose the next problem will be threading the 8ba ?

Thread: Centre punch
04/12/2014 13:36:31

Hi Vic and Guys
Yes when marking out in 1960 ish we used to box in to see how the drilling was going it off center you could pull the hole over using a round file . Another method was to use a sticky pin running true to pick up the cross lines .
To use the jig borer we had to sign in to use it in case you drilled the table . No trouble these days using the CNC mill with the canned cycle's for drilling, pocket milling.and 3D etc.

Welcome Terry
Depends what you want to make . I would go for a good clean second hand Myford super 7 . as you can get loads of extras for this type of machine .
