Bazyle
Sound advice, for that money you can buy a tidy small lathe the supplier usualy throws in some tooling join your local ME club and scrounge some scrap brass.
Pick a nice simple project and you will be off. Use forums like this for advice.
You will be on a hobby for life not just a 15 week course. and it will be What Next after the course ends !!
Good luck and please keep everyone in touch with your progress.

Hi J would be interesting to know what he is really up to. Think he has renamed himself
for this posting. If I remember correctly we all decided to give no advice on prices.
The grammer then the "Thanks chaps" doese not ring true.
Sorry to be so synical but sounds like a general house clearance person trying to get prices prior to selling the goods.

If I recollect Was this lot posted before as a "Find" a few months ago and the concensus was to get in a decent auction house catalogue it for the lady as it left the house. Could be wrong but pics are the same. Now on looking at the posting date stamps it is the same. Maybe was also posted on a different fo forum.

Nigel
A steel boiler for a 5"g is a non runner Wayne at Bell boiilers once said to me that the smallest he would consider was al large 7.25g have been in his factory and seen full size jobs. I managed to talk him into makeing a large 7.25 for me. The paperwork was about 1/4" thick and covered from material sources to insurance docs.
Contact Helen Wirral of Western Steam she is one of the best boiler makers in this country.
And Oh get in the queue she is makeing my B1 boiler

Thread: Storage of taps, dies, slot drills and end mills |

Wheeltapper beat me to it I use some old wooden floor blocks suitably drilled and a cheapo label maker to indicate what the size is ie; nBA, what die size type of tap or die
ergo BA.BSF.METRIC, BSP. BSW. ME. Works a treat as long as you remember to put it back whenever you have finished with it.

I agree with coalburner
A waste of a page. and as said before we tend to be a bit flippant in our comments.
Also it would be a massive task sorting out as they say the wheat from the chaff.
Nice idea but think unmanageable, unless..
Berto
how about you each week sifting through everything and presenting a page to Andy.
now there is a stimulating thought.
Off to Bolivia next week for a month and only comms is a secure satelite so no forums et.all;.
Will miss the workshop

There is a place in the home workshop for both. If it is general work I use the vernier if it has to be say a press fit out comes the micrometer.

Hi Bazyle,
you are lucky you could afford breakfast and lunch thought I would have to take out a second mortgauge for a coffee, coke and sadwiches (they were very sad) for both of us when went there a few years ago, grandson and self found it a cold sterile place traders not friendly, very little seating and all taken up with people eating there own jam butties
No sorry we decided to never go there again.
We went to Sandown with our club this year and found it diametrically the opposite
Look at the BSMEE web site for a good friendly show with lots of boats as affiliated to a boating club..
