Thread: Pesky Government Announcement!
18/06/2020 12:49:12

I have to admit to having an old cd player / radio in the garage / mancave but it is set on FM for my local radio station. this is usually set on the local presenters programmes at a regular time every day & volume is set loud enough to provide background music. I can also claim to have selective hearing ( ssh; don't tell SWMBO wink ) so when I have my eyes & hands on the lathe / milling machine my brain goes into radio silence so I can only predominantly see & hear what the machines are doing. So apart from catching the main news items every hr on the hr it suits me fine.. nerd wink.

A pic would be handy; there is a wiring diagram in the manual if you have it, if not I can scan & send you a copy.

Thread: CAD for a Chromebook
07/06/2020 16:12:49

I have downloaded DesignSpark Mechanical to see if I can get my head round CAD, it reminded me much of Viseo 2000 which I got on very well with but is now defunct. has any one else used this app; & did anything else, if any, replace, Viseo 200. ?

Nicely coming along Bob. Wouldn't worry about mistakes either; if any one tells you they have never made mistakes then they're either a magician or are good with terminological inexactitudes.

Thread: How to glue plastics
06/06/2020 13:34:12

1. Looking at your pic I am assuming that there are two remnants of teeth on the pulley wheel boss 180* apart ?

2. Is the ID of the replacement gear larger than the OD of the remaining teeth;

In which case you could place the new gear over the boss & epoxy resin / JB weld infill the space remaining. If not alternatively remove the remaining teeth fit the new gear cog & if there is sufficient gap between the two Loctite with Loctite 638 retainer.I would also mechanically lock the two together.. e.g.drill & tap through the root of one tooth for 3-4mm grub screw. Gorilla glue is surprising strong as well.. usual disclaimer applies.

Thread: Storing & Documenting Your Tooling?
03/06/2020 11:30:59

I have an inventory on Excel that I made up some years ago itemizing all of my tooling & where it is located e.g. blue wall cabinet - #1 cupboard, milling cutters in their respective plastic containers in plastic separation box's ( fisherman tackle box )- red tool chest, etc etc.It stood me in good stead 5 years ago when some low life managed to break into my garage/man cave & helped themselves to some items including my first engine build.

Fortunately we managed to disturb them & they managed to make a rapid exit as the police arrived within 1/2 hr ?. the itemised listing certainly helped insurance co. resolve my claim swiftly, anything new gets added to the inventory as & when.

Thread: Chilled cast Iron - a small Rant
02/06/2020 12:19:59

I had a similar problem with my S10V having a chilled area on the OD of the standard. I managed to get around it by using a carbide tipped tool & a carbide insert face cutter.

Chilled area around the OD...

Thread: How can I seal this oil sight glass?
31/05/2020 18:33:46

Howard beat me to it, how about a small section 'O' ring that fits in the chrome ring to seal the glass junction of the brass body at the end of the thread, if you get my drift.

Thread: Surface Plate & Height Gauge recommendations
31/05/2020 17:19:39

I have a Digi height gauge from M-DRO & a 18" x 17" x1.5/16" polished granite sink cut out from a kitchen manufacturer... free gratis after I told them what it was for.. suits me fine for the accuracy I need.. as for flatness.. measured with digi gauge from corner to corner ( 4 corners ) & measured to '0' with a 0.0005" fall off at one corner, just fine for me.
