Thread: I need to cut chamfers into x64 pieces of mild steel - any advice?

Try Depth of Cut. Did you look at the item on Home Workshop website? It may be the answer to a Maidens prayer.

Thread: 9/32 hex steel bar
03/09/2021 23:02:38

It appears that until clarified subsequently, I wasn't the only one confused by quantity, 3,000 is a large number of nuts by any standard and 30 would fall in to what perhaps would be the expected quantity of nuts required by forum members. . A simple post - "I need to make 3,000 special 3ba nuts and require 30 off one metre lengths of 9/32" or 3ba hex" is succinct.

I apologise if I caused offence

The convenience and sensitivity of lever feed is far superior to the handwheel. Depending on the feed accuracy required, the tailstock barrel is usually calibrated and it is not a major task or expense to fit a DRO scale to the tailstock. The drill point tends to obscure the true depth as the full diameter does not extend to the point.

I wouldn't replace the lever feed tailstock with the handwheel type unless to prove how good the lever feed is.

Chris it's not a matter of affording or not affording, circumstances in my life change at short notice and if the booking can be cancelled at short notice I find this economic as I lose nothing if forced to cancel.

I am unable to rely on public transport as I live in a rural location, no buses into the village for years. For the last 50 years I have made my my way to business appointments at all times of the day and night and literally in all weathers, Public transport is unable to respond adequately to bad weather and totally unsuitable for my needs, hence I have a car.

A new Seig CO lathe is obtainable from Axminster Power Tools for less than £450-00 with a three year warranty. Easy to spend similar amount on parts!

The cancellation was announced on this Forum on the 19th July 2021. Annoying but given the disruption over the last 18 months, the uncertainties and cost of late cancellation, understandable. Alexandra Palace exhibition also cancelled along with a number of other exhibitions staged by the organiser. I never book non cancellable accomadation and have no experience of train travel.

If in doubt delay decisions.

Thread: Is there such a thing as an 'external reamer'?
18/08/2021 17:39:24

I needed to create a 8mm diameter spigot within a cavity, an engineer pal opened up the internal bore of the rotabroach cutter to suit. To create a depth stop i inserted an 8mm plug of the required length to bottom out on the toolholder held in the tailstock turret. Repeatability to required accuracy and the rotabroach assisted with centering.

Given the lathe may have been repainted or wearing different types of paint (instruction plates not excluded) the only reliable answer to the question is check on an inconspicuous area.
