Thread: 70 Years of the Myford Super 7
03/07/2023 22:13:23

I wonder if you will still be able to buy spares /accessories etc for a Far Eastern product that is 70 years young and will it still be useable? At the moment the proof is the premium that brands like Myford ,Boxford and Colchester etc still command.

Daniel , there will be 6 points of contact as it rotates and each point comes into contact once per rev. Out of interest I have made two of these , one to my own design and one of Hemingways design and both work well.

Thread: Rotary broaching

As Peter says the principle is very simple but perhaps more easily understood as the action is akin to skiving with a wood chisel type action.

I have a set of Castings fir something similar and my son has the finished article and very nice it is too. This version is counterbalanced not spring return and motor is mounted similar to GHT pillar tool albeit a bit larger . I also have the original Indian ink drawings on tracing paper dated 1975. They were drawn by a friend of mine now sadly gone.d87d40d4-5cf6-45f6-8e3c-9b3248c4861f.jpeg

Thread: Do I need a J drill or what?
24/06/2023 20:56:59

I use delrin / acetal for making small gears 6/8mm dia and have never had a problem with drilling and reaming holes to size as well as bobbing teeth, the whole idea of it is that it is an engineering plastic known for its ability to machine to reliable dimensions. Are you sure that's what you have ?

Thread: Dro advice for mill
20/06/2023 18:33:46

I have done 4 machines so far with magnetic scales from Mdro and EMS and all work really well, have also fitted cheap scales and read outs to a sherline mill and they work as well (bracketed was a bit of a nightmare). As people have said before it gives greater confidence and also speeds up the process.

hydraulic oils are not water soluble I Have 4 machines in an unheated garage that use hydraulic oil as a coolant and do not have trouble with rust even when the temperature changes dramatically and condensation is on every thing. I get mine from a local ag engineers after they have done oil changes.

I very much doubt that the crew holes are worn as they are through hardened. I will try to measure my screws and see what I come up with.
