Thread: Myford 254 Hand Turning Rest
17/08/2021 20:38:23

The only thing with fitting a collar is that you are stuck with one size/ dia of graver, I use several sizes and don’t find height setting an issue as you only have to raise or lower the handle a smigin to find the sweet spot which I find is different for different materials. Nice job though and nice to see someone using them!

Thread: universal pillar tool long arm castings
15/08/2021 20:58:18

Sorry but I thought that the idea behind GHTs Upt was the fact that it was for model makers. If you want bigger use a run of the mill drilling machine, it will also have a decent size column.

Robert, your father would not have used silicon bronze to oxy cast iron he would have used manganese bronze, very similar to look at but very different behaviour on cast iron.

Thread: Boat fittings...window frames.

Have you tried using thick walled tube and machining a step in it, part off, anneal and form the shape as before. You then are able to insert the frame and have a frame trim on the outside.

Thread: Moving vice on mill table....
06/08/2021 12:25:11

If the mill is not complaining (noisy) when this happens I think I would go for hold down problems, but as somebody said previously are your cuts too ambitious and are the cutters sharp. Plus one for the paper but not thick.
